Sam is a development economist with substantial experience in research, policy advice, capacity building, model development and survey design. He has written over 30 studies that have been published in renowned international peer-reviewed journals. His interests are in applied economic and policy analysis, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa and Lusophone Africa in particular. Sam's research interests include labour markets, policy impact evaluations, the economics of foreign aid, education quality and poverty/welfare analysis including multi-dimensional deprivation. Sam works extensively with macro- and micro-economic data from developing countries, applying a range of econometric and forecasting tools.Sam's professional field experience includes over 10 years advising the government of Mozambique, as well as work in Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Vietnam (among others).
