She was the first Amate House volunteer our department had and she set the standard for future Amate House volunteers. The standard became outreach as the focus of the position with many other concurrent tasks that coincide with the talents and interests of the volunteer. Emily did this very well. Emily is definitely someone who takes pride in her work being accurate and she ensures details are correct. She helped the department transition from paper charts to electronic medical records by entering medical information into the new record. Many terms were new to her and she researched appropriately to ensure she got it right. She clearly has social justice as part of her being and cares deeply for others, particularly those on the margins of society. She was very professional in all patient encounters and particularly diligent in representing the wishes and concerns of the patient group, the consumer advisory council. Emily was creative in outreach ideas. One particular idea that stands out was using different color Hershey kisses in a bag to make the point that sexual transmission of HIV cannot be seen. She also created a database of useful contacts for future outreach workers and even took on training a college student in outreach. Overall, Emily was a joy to work with. I highly recommend her."
