The European Association of Fish Producers Organisations (EAPO) represents 30 POs from 9 EU Member States, with approximately 10,000 vessels, 3.5 million tonnes of landings and € 3 billion first sale value. EAPO was founded in 1980. Every Fish PO recognized by its EU member state can apply for membership of the association.EAPO’s objectives are:To assist the members in fulfilling their key role as a PO to achieve the objectives of the Common Fishery Policy and the Common Market Organisation for Fishery and Aquaculture Products. To provide advice to the members on the management of their Production and Marketing Plans. To improve the relationship between European POs by looking for common grounds in addressing the challenges for the European fisheries, particularly in respect of marketing and other specific tasks of the POs. To address the above with relevant authorities in the Member States, Fisheries Ministers Council, European Parliament and European Commission and to be recognized by these authorities as a European representative body for the fisheries sector. To influence the rules and regulations affecting fisheries targeting a sustainable production through socio-economic viability with respect for the environment.

Setting up the Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) was one of the pillars of the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy, carried out in 2002. There had been calls from stakeholders in the fisheries sector who wanted to be more involved in the way fisheries is managed in the EU.The main aim of the Baltic Sea Advisory Council (BSAC) is to prepare and provide advice to the EU Commission on the management of Baltic Sea fisheries in order to achieve a successful running of the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy.The BSAC consists of organisations representing the commercial fisheries and other interest groups affected by the CFP (eg. environmental, organisations, and sports and recreational fisheries organisations).

Responsible for developing political and strategic advice on international and domestic fisheries policy issues. Negotiation of EU internal and external fishing opportunities. Research coordinator and liaison to scientific institutions. Coordinator of initiatives to secure the protection of marine mammals, endangered marine species and vulnerable marine ecosystems.

Responsible for the development of a Danish management plan for the protection of European eel, and necessary national legislation. Secretary of the Ministers Advisory Committee on Shellfish. Responsible for licensed shellfish fishing and marine aquaculture. Member of the Ministers Advisory Committee on Recreational Fishing.

Design and analysis of administrative processes related to EU subsidies and financial incentives for the food, agriculture and fisheries sectors.

Responsible for the planning, including budgets and logistics and review of scientific input to: MRC Forum on Integrated Water Ressource Management. November, 2005, Chiang Rai, Thailand. Responsible for the MRC session at the 2nd South East Asian Water Forum,
