I write monthly columns analyzing current affairs through the lens of academic research on Security Studies topics.

I provide structural and copy editing for manuscripts in social science, history, and the humanities. I also edit financial research reports for Thomson Reuters MENA.

I publish political, economic and cultural analysis on current affairs in the Middle East at my blog ericschewe.wordpress.com. I have written articles on politics, economic policy, finance, housing and construction reported in Egypt, Qatar, the UAE, Turkey, Malaysia and Indonesia for Business Today Egypt magazine, Communicate magazine and Oxford Business Group media.

I taught courses on the history of the Middle East, Islam, Imperialism and the United States.

I designed and taught two undergraduate history courses: an upper division seminar, "The Iranian Islamic Revolution"​ and a core freshman writing seminar, "The United States and Egypt: 1945-present."​ I served as teaching assistant for the survey courses "The United States and Middle Eastern Wars,"​ "The History of the Modern Middle East, 1800-Present"​ and "The Arab-Israeli Conflict."

Performed research and fact checking for the “Harper’s Index” and “Readings” sections of the magazine.

Edited Egypt's leading English-language business and economy monthly magazine, Business Today Egypt. Crafted long- and short-term editorial calendars, and researched story ideas. Helped manage a staff of 15 writers, designers and photographers. Wrote news and feature articles on finance, IT, oil and gas and economic policy. Also served as copy editor in 2004.
