I'm writing a book!Full time focussed on creative writing has:- helped me explicitly separate "creative-mode" and "editor-mode" in my brain, which helps me problem solve at work and in working with people.- been great practice in dealing with concurrent iteration at multiple levels, and doing that in a very different (non-technical/product) context has given rise to some cool insights about software development management- been wonderful and rewarding to my psycheAnd, I'm really loving the story that this book is becoming!

I lead directors and managers of Software Enginering teams, Automation Engineering teams, and an Operational Intelligence team. Together, we automate roboticized wet labs and chemistry labs and provide software infrastructure at scale along with a variety of user facing tools for designing experiments, managing their lifecycles, and running complex computer vision and machine learning analyses on the results.

I manage 4 managers and 3 high level ICs (a TPM and 2 SDEs). My 7 teams include the Monolith Debt Relief team, the Consistent Front-End team, the Methodology Platform teams, the Catalog team, and the Web Engineering teams. Our impact cross-cuts all of engineering, all of our products, and all of our marketing and support organizations. We consistently have some of the highest engagement and manager effectiveness scores, consistently grow our headcount, and consistently get promoted. We believe in our teammates, have consistent trust of our leadership, and make impact happen.

Applying my ninja personal skills to help two cross-project teams function well on Agile projects involving AngularJS, Bootstrap, Java, RESTful Services, iOS, and Android technologies - providing notifications to crime victims.

* Built, designed (with user experiments), and launched an iOS and Android app aimed at helping people with the things that are really important to them in their real lives.* Lead numerous design adjustment sessions to improve customer experience, satisfaction, and penetration – resulting in a 10x increase in satisfied users.* Failed on the marketing front and some strategic areas: learned from the firehose.

• Ads Crawl: Improved pipeline latency from 6-8 hours to under 10 minutes – resulting in 40% reduction in machine costs for ads crawl.• Smart Ads Serving System: Designed and built new feature generation system for large scale machine learning – achieved a 7.5x speedup while adding support for testing, versioning, modularization, caching, and multiple independent models. This allowed for an 8% increase in ads click through rates, a $x00M/year revenue contribution.• MergeTable: Designed and built a very large scale specialized distributed fast storage with integrated functionality. This reduced machine requirements by 10x and enabled 16x faster analyst exploration of new machine learning models.• Ads for Search Partners: Designed and built improved ad targeting algorithms for our partners. Resulted in 12% CTR improvement on select partners, for an $xM/year revenue contribution. Patented this work.• Mentoring Inter-grouplet: Tasked with steering cultural integration of new employees (al- most 10x expansion while I was there) via mentoring the mentors and managing on-board- ing and integration processes. Received numerous bonuses and recognitions for this work.• Training Inter-grouplet: Taught internal courses: “Having dif cult conversations,” Python, and Android.• Interviewed over 100 candidates for engineering positions at Google.• Multiple campus recruiting visits to UNC, BYU, Duke, and NCSU.• Started and maintained the local Toastmasters club, the office photography club, and localN’ats.

• Presented at SIGGRAPH conference Exhibitor Sessions my work specifying, designing, and implementing a SDK with our Instrumented Driver. This involved interfacing with senior engineers at Microsoft on their pre-release products (including aiding in their design of their future APIs).• Explorations into applications of GPU programmability to non-graphics applications.

Organgatango had 5 employees: I was one of two engineers managing, designing, and implementing the primary product. I took also part in formulating company vision and long term objectives.
