Profile bio

About Eshan Naik

A unique journey from scientific research to public policy culminating in a broad range of skills and expertise to offer. I started my journey as an undergraduate student pursuing human biology and physiology at the University of Toronto. As a Dean's list student with an Honors distinction and a competitive academic performance, I embarked on to graduate studies, in pursuit of cultivating research and project management skills: “Scientist in the making”. As a Scientist, I learned the process of identifying gaps in science and designed projects to fill those gaps accordingly. As a national science scholarship (NSERC) recipient, I experienced the true value of government research funding and decided to pursue a career in public policy to improve the landscape for all Canadian scientists. I began my career in politics over 7 years ago— it is where I honed a considerable political acumen and learned to balance the vision of stakeholders with the agenda of the government for the public good.I strongly believe that public policies must be evidence-based and supported by science, and I continue to channel this belief through my work in Parliament. I strongly advocated for modernizing the research ecosystem in Canada throughout my years in Parliament—particularly in my role at Health. It was through Budget 2024 that I was able to fulfill this dream—$2.6B to increase grants and awards to help support emerging Canadian scientists and bring our research support system in line with our G7 counterparts. There is a lot of work ahead and that keeps me going.

Listed skills include Research, Science, Academic Tutoring, Microsoft Office, and 16 others.
