Following an intensive five-week public defender training, I am now working at the Malden District Court Office within the Public Defender Division of CPCS. My role is supported by the Boston University School of Law Fellowship Program, which assists recent J.D. graduates in their pursuit of meaningful public interest legal careers.

I returned to CPCS for the summer of 2017 as a certified student attorney, under Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Rule 3:03. As a legal intern in the Suffolk Superior Court Trial Unit of the Public Defender Division, I assisted attorneys and clients in a wide variety of criminal matters.

Worked directly with CEO to promote new business courses in underserved communities and townships surrounding Cape Town by drafting fundraising proposals, attending conferences, conducting outreach, building relationships, and recruiting successful South African business owners to volunteer as course instructors. Organized, enhanced, and built social media platforms to gain awareness.

Assisted Defendants’ counsel in document review, organizing files, and maintaining correspondence in corporate litigation lawsuits, with clients ranging from members of a now-defunct world-renown law firm, international banks, and pharmaceutical companies. Pro bono work including translating to and from English and Spanish for cases concerning immigration, family, and criminal law.

San Francisco

Assisted Plaintiffs’ counsel in cite checking, proof reading, and researching for US Supreme Court brief leading to landmark decision in Schwarzenegger v. Plata. Researched issues revealed in correspondence from the 33 California prisons as part of ongoing monitoring in Coleman v. Brown, one of two underlying cases resulting in the SCOTUS prison overcrowding decision. . Responded to class member correspondence, including translation from and to Spanish-speaking clients, and flagging suicidal ideation. Conducted interviews of mentally ill prisoners, including extensive solitary confinement research project with renowned psychologist Craig Haney.

Manage and direct new business for North Carolina, South Carolina, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Research and identify wireless LAN needs for Fortune 500 companies, schools, and hospitals. Manage relations between outside sales representatives and client contacts. Track relevant sales data into the SalesForce.com database throughout the sales cycle.

Assisted with intake and research in regards to family law, immigration, and juvenile cases. Aided with interviewing and legal counseling at Southeast State Correctional Facility, a women’s correctional facility in Windsor, VT. Updated clinic’s procedural manual to reflect policy changes.

Taught Spanish language to adults in a 10 day intensive language program at Dartmouth College.
