--Aligned staff to work towards cross training of IT systems and Warehouse services. This allowed us to leverage the 2nd/3rd shift Warehouse support for IT Systems issues.--Migration of all Warehouse Sorters from Windows 2012 to Windows 2019.--Overall support for all sorters, yard management systems, warehouse management systems, labor management systems.--Project Sponsor to replace all Warehouse Windows stations with Linux kiosk to both reduce costs and speed up log on times.--My team was responsible for getting Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) designed and implemented At Wayfair. --Created Ansible workflows to build our various campus sites. This entailed configuring Dell servers and storage, installing ESXi and upgrading it, creation of VMware cluster objects and settings, and adding the hosts into the VMware cluster.--Assisted in creating an Ansible workflow to perform site maintenance. This workflow was schedulable through AAP. This workflow would power down all VMs, put all hosts in maintenance mode, power off all Dell VRTX blades, and then shut down the Dell VRTX Chassis.--Leveraged Actifio to back up all sorter servers at Wayfair. There had never been backups done in that space, which was a huge risk since rebuilding a sorter implementation is $50,000/site. With Backups we are now able to recover a site without vendor involvement.--Meets regularly with site leads and key stakeholders to understand business needs, developing the relationships needed to be successful in pushing the It Field Engineering projects along.--Builds standardization - worked with stakeholders to put together a comprehensive guide to how to build each of our different sites.

--Leverage Agile Sprint methodology to increase the team's ability to deliver projects from 2+ months to under 6 weeks--Implemented Agile Program Management across both teams and assigned Programs for my senior engineers to lead. This created a sense of ownership from the staff and allowed them to work together to prioritize the program work that needed to be done in each sprint--Identified a gap in communication between the Tier 2 and Tier 3 Engineering teams. I proactively reached out to all the Tier 2 managers and set up recurring meetings to make sure that their voices are being heard and create a way for them to provide us feedback--Defined and translated our OKRs into actionable tasks to that can be executed, and explaining how those tasks roll up to the overarching Wayfair goals. --Worked with business partners to develop roadmaps for my teams platforms and programs and got them completed on the agreed to schedule--Responsible for all monitoring/alerting/logging/oncall of my scope----Leverage DataDog for monitoring and alerting. ----On call was done through Pagerduty--Implemented Papercut cloud printing solution across all of Wayfair - reducing our on-prem footprint by over 50 VMs and reduced the overall cost of the printing solution--Went through multiple roadmap sessions with the team to come up with the 2H 2022 and 1H 2023 roadmaps.--Streamlined the oncall experience for IT Systems, reducing pages to only be human actionable events vs. the previous iteration which included pages for non-actionable alerts.--I implemented development conversations among the team. The outcome of those conversations is that I was able to get members of the team trained up as an Agile Scrum Master, Ansible and Ansible Automation Platform, Cloud certification (GCP Architect), Confluence, Papercut, and VMware.

--Migrated 2 of our larger services - Passwordstate password manager and Atlassian Confluence from on-prem VMs with backend SQL Availability Group DBs to GCP Compute instances leveraging Cloud SQL for the databases. This deploy was across 3 regions (US West, US East, EU West). This was done leveraging Terraform for the deploys and DSC for configuration management--Team lead responsible for architecture and design of the Enterprise Technology GCP VPC, Service VPCs, network structure (DMZ/Conf/Intra), ip space allocation, and firewall rules structure.--Modernized our UCCE phone system platform to run on Cisco Hyperflex hyper converged infrastructure, building the platform and migrating all workloads from a traditional server/SAN architecture to the Hyperflex solution

Program/Platform Ownership:--VMware Platform - builds/upgrades/design--POP design - design appropriate compute and storage platforms for POP locations--Datacenter Architecture - Availability Zone design, rack layouts, power layouts, design work for new hardware/platforms, POCs--Hardware standards - current hardware profiles, use cases for different hardware profiles, what to do with aging equipment--Capacity Management - Capacity dashboarding for all Data Center Compute platforms, identify and implement appropriate thresholds per compute platform where we need to acquire new gear/start builds, and alerting on thresholds

--Redesigned Cisco UCCE phone system hardware platform. This entailed a sizing/scoping exercise of the phone system for BOM creation, SOW negotiation/creation, reconfiguration of the existing UCS environment to support the additional UCS hardware and migration of the VMs.--vCenter upgrades from 6.0 to 6.5 which was particularly complex due to the multi-site external platform services controller setup that had been previously used. I used the upgrade as an opportunity to cross train our more junior engineering teams.--Developed and executed a plan to migrate all our development VMs and hypervisors (~2500MVs and 10 hosts) from Cisco ACI to NXOS switch infrastructure. This was done seamlessly during a maintenance window with a 100% success rate. What made this extra challenging was we were cutting over IP schemas from one set of cores to another and got all the ACLs and VLAN mapping correct on the first try.--Team lead on architecting the compute footprint of our Kubernetes Master, etcd, ingress, and worker nodes. We were able to quickly decom old equipment and get it repurposed in our availability zones. We designed the Kubernetes cluster in such a way that we had master, etcd, and ingress nodes built out across all availability zones so a failure in one of the zones wouldn’t take down the whole cluster. This design quickly scale out our Kubernetes capacity and when we did have a failure in one of our zones it only reduces the overall cluster capacity by 20% and all containers were able to recover in other availability zones so impact was small.

--Primary focus was on the design and architecture of Wayfair’s on-prem VMware environment and all physical servers - including SQL, Big Data, and AI/ML--Successfully designed and implemented a hardware solution and VM configuration that allowed Wayfair to go from a 100% physical SQL server footprint to a 100% virtual SQL server footprint. Using data driven metrics I was able to showcase that not only were the SQL VMs performing on par with their physical counterparts but in a few instances were performing better while virtualized. This reduced the overall hardware costs of the SQL environment by over $2M/year.--Revolutionized how Wayfair leveraged physical hardware. Prior to me joining Wayfair built out all hardware solutions with drastically different configurations and vendors. Using historical performance data I was able to take all our workloads that were running on bare-metal, group them into similar performance buckets or T-shirt sizes, and then design a configuration that would support that performance characteristic. This simplified support, since there were fewer hardware profiles and configurations. It also allowed us to easily reuse hardware to support new initiatives since we’d analyze the performance requirements of the new initiatives profile and then use existing hardware that fit that profile--Lead architect in redesigning our primary datacenter from a single fault domain to a multi-availability zone fault domain design. This allowed us to segment our infrastructure into smaller building blocks with their own compute/storage/network fault domains, so when we had to perform maintenance or had a failure it only affected a smaller subset of the infrastructure vs. the large outages we’d have when it was a single fault domain.

This included setting up a Cisco UCS B series Blade Center with 6 B200 M2 blades, Cisco Nexus 5548s with Cisco 2224 Fabric Extenders, EMC VNX 5300 SAN serving boot-from-SAN LUNs for the blades, Block storage for the VMware Datastores, and CIFS Shares for medical image repositories. The whole environment is virtualized on VMware 5.1 Enterprise plus using DRS, Storage DRS, HA, and Cisco 1000V dvSwitches. This environment was also upgraded from VMware 5.0 to 5.1, which included upgrading the Cisco 1000V switches. Medical file images are being replicated to the EMC VNX 5300 from the Production Celerra NS120.

• Subject Matter Expert on VMware vSphere 4.1 and VMware Lab Manager, EMC CX4 and AX4 series SANS, and Cisco MDS 9124 Fiber Switches.• Responsible for overall management of vCenter 4 infrastructure consisting of 25 ESX/ESXi servers running 550 virtual machines – both in Production and corporate data centers.• Implemented VMware Lab Manager for entire Engineering organization consisting of 3 departments. This increased the productivity of the individual developers and saved the company 5 man hours per developer per week.• Expanded existing virtual infrastructure from 30 VMs on 1 server attached to a small CX4-120 SAN to 550 virtual machines on 25 servers attached to 3 CX4-120 SANs and 2 AX4-5 SANs.• Created and implemented all security roles for corporate vCenter.• Work with all department heads on capacity planning and budgeting for future growth of vSphere infrastructure.• Instituted corporate backup strategy for vCenter server and database server.• Trained all staff members on how to use both Lab Manager and vCenter.Accomplishments:• Conversion of 55 physical machines to VMs. This contributed to lowering the cost of future AC/Power needs and warranty costs on the order of about $150,000. • Upgraded existing VMware infrastructure from Virtual Center 2.5 and ESX 3.5 servers to vCenter 4.1 running vSphere 4.1. This entailed an entire rebuild of the virtual infrastructure and porting over all the data.• Conceived of and executed plan for collapsing NOC into minimal amount of cabinets and migrating virtual infrastructure in preparation of corporate office move.• Built entire Development Performance Environment for Engineering consisting of 5 server – 2 Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 servers, 1 ESXi Host (to host Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 VMs), and 2 Red Hat Advanced Server Linux nodes in an oracle cluster. This also included reconfiguring and recarving up a CX4-120 for the Linux cluster.
