This project was funded by the Jeanne Sauve Foundation. Conducted research, wrote articles and explored the link between FGM and disability in Kenya Spearheaded the development and launch of alternative formats (easy-to-read, audio, braille, among others) of The Prohibition of Female Genital Mutilation Act, 2011 for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) Conducted capacity building workshops for PwDs on FGM and Prohibition of FGM Act Engaged the government especially the Anti-FGM Board and UN agencies to encourage sustainability and inter-thematic learning.Responsibilities Technical backstopping - Provided technical expertise on Inclusion and the issues of harmful cultural practices such as FGM and Gender. Stakeholder Engagement - Identified and engaged stakeholders such as the Anti-FGM Board and organizations working and affected by the issues of harmful cultural practices as well as gender. Development of Inclusion Resources -Led and managed the project, which entailed overseeing the development and adaptation of accessible formats of the FGM Act. Project Planning and Management - Developed annual work-plans, corresponding budgets and implementation schedules to support implementation of the project. Resource Mobilization - Developed funding plans to ensure the project’s ongoing delivery and success. Capacity Building -Led on partnership assessment initiatives, developed a coherent plan of partner capacity building, and supported partners in the implementation of those plans. Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning - Ensured that all aspects of the project were effectively monitored and evaluated on an ongoing basis, that any problems were resolved as they arose, and that reports and updates were provided as required, in line with organisational and donor requirements. It was the largest-ever global collective of organisations working to end FGM; As the Country Lead for TGG, I provided technical assistance to the members and grantees of The Girl Generation and the Anti-FGM Board and; strengthened partnerships with State department of Gender, County Governments, UNICEF/UNFPA, INGOs, and media. Provided technical support to the Anti-FGM Board in the development of the following key policy documents; Kenya National Policy on the abandonment of FGM, Guideline for conducting an Alternative Rite of Passage (ARP), Guideline for conducting Community dialogues, Resource Mobilization Strategy, Strategic Plan (2019-2023), FGM Resource Handbook, stakeholder mapping document, a simplified version of the Prohibition of FGM Act, 2011, Kiswahili and English versions and Regional Action Plan to end Cross-border FGM Spearheaded the first ever Pan-African Youth Summit to End FGM which brought 150 activists from 17 countries Provided technical support in the planning of ‘The Regional Inter-ministerial meeting to End Cross Border-Female Genital Mutilation in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Somalia’. Conducted membership engagement surveys and implemented a membership recruitment plan which saw the recruitment of over 200 organizations as members of The Girl Generation in Kenya and 900 members across Africa. Directly supported the End FGM Grassroots Fund programme which channelled $1.8 million, through 172 small grants. Trained more than 200 inspiring young grassroots activists and journalists on Social Change Communication and Do No Harm approach to transform the way they communicate to end FGM. Provided technical support to the Anti-FGM Board in the planning and execution of the first and second End FGM Conferences and celebration of key UN days.
