As a Member Care Advocate (a role formerly titled Care Coordinator) for Included Health's LGBTQ+ Health navigation product, I respond to member requests for LGBTQ+ health care navigation and assistance, acting as an advocate for the member with health care providers, health care plans, and other organizations.Included Health is an employer-provided benefit and is available to members (clients' employees and their dependents) free of cost.Beyond my role as a Member Care Advocate, I contribute to cross-departmental projects, such as creating transgender competency training materials; writing member-facing materials like PrEP coverage advocacy guidelines; and providing quotes and background information for Marketing collateral.

Kind Clinic, a program of Texas Health Action, is a sexual wellness and health clinic that provides Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent acquisition of HIV, as well as sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment, HIV treatment, gender transition care, vaccinations, psychiatric medication management, and LGBTQ-affirming general wellness services.As a Patient Advocate Supervisor, I led a team of Patient Advocates based out of the South Austin clinic location, and contributed to strategic projects and inter-departmental collaborations to improve patient care.Op-eds that I wrote about topics related to Texas Health Action's populations of focus were published in outlets including The RepubliQ and LGBTQNation.I was also interviewed for stories published by Houston Public Media and the Texas Standard and airing on radio stations including KERA (Dallas), KSTX (San Antonio), and KUT (Austin).

My role as Patient Advocate was to troubleshoot any barriers that may stand between patients and the medication and services they need, regardless of income or health insurance coverage. A typical day might include: enrolling an uninsured client in a manufacturer medication assistance programs; administering a rapid HIV test to a client seeking post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) services; educating a client about safer sex practices; referring a client to sliding-scale counseling services; and enrolling a client in Ryan White programs such as the Texas HIV Medication Program.Beyond my role as Patient Advocate, I contributed to projects including implementation of an internal sliding scale copay assistance program; substantial revision of gender care intake paperwork and initial appointment procedures; creation of transgender competency training materials for internal and external stakeholders; and writing content for the Kind Blog (also published by LGBTQ news outlets including LGBTQNation and Republiq).

I researched, analyzed, and worked to ensure compliance with laws and regulations including the Affordable Care Act, HIPAA, the Service Contract Act, ERISA, and other state and federal healthcare laws.As Compliance Specialist, I was a "one-stop shop" for colleagues and clients regarding laws and regulations that touched the business. I wrote posts for the company blog about compliance trends important to clients; this copy was also used for email and social media marketing campaigns. I drafted procedures to ensure that all departments operated in compliance with constantly-evolving regulations and best practices. I also administered continual HIPAA compliance training to over 300 employees. I edited and proofread documents including Summary Plan Descriptions. I initially filled an administrative assistant position through L.K. Jordan staffing agency. Responsibilities included greeting clients, managing supply orders, printing brochures and marketing materials, filing, and other administrative tasks.In September 2014, I shifted focus to accounts payable duties at the same work location. Responsibilities included coding and processing invoices, updating the general ledger, making payments, researching past transactions, and communicating with vendors.I handled additional projects outside of administrative and accounts payable duties. I edited official communications, including proposals and executive summaries, for managers; researched competitors' products and created spreadsheets comparing product features; and wrote and edited formal business letters to clients and vendors.

As a Professional Writing Intern at the UNM LGBTQ Resource Center, I wrote grant applications tailored to international grantmaking foundations; wrote weekly newsletter emails about upcoming Resource Center, campus, and community events; and edited, copyedited, and substantially revised documents (from student organization charters to training manuals) used by hundreds of UNM students and staff members.Additionally, I assisted with event setup and teardown for events including HIV Walk New Mexico, Albuquerque Pride, National Coming Out Day, and Trans Day of Remembrance, often by inflating hundreds of rainbow-colored balloons.

As a Standardized Patient, I assessed medical students' clinical and interpersonal skills during simulated patient-clinician encounters. In each simulated office visit, I portrayed a "patient" character, revealing standardized details about the character's symptoms, personality, and background as medical students proceeded through the encounter. The goal of standardized patient testing is to help medical students practice taking patient histories and providing in-room exams. After each encounter, I gave specific, clear, and actionable feedback to students to help them reflect on and improve their "bedside manner" with future patients.

As a Communications Assistant, I relayed telephone calls between hearing and Deaf, hard of hearing, or speech disabled customers using voice and transcription, providing personalized service tailored to each customer's abilities, needs, and preferences. I was recognized for my speed and accuracy in performance tests, transcribing voice calls at 100 worlds per minute with 99% accuracy.
