I loved my mechanical engineering degree, but it wasn’t everything I craved. It was missing people, it was glimpsing over the complexity that comes with design, it lacked creativity in solutions. When I stumbled across industrial design, everything came together. My two degrees compliment each other perfectly. From my Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, I have a technical background to pull from, a hardened work ethic and an ability to face a challenge head on. In my Master of Integrated Product Design, I augmented these technical skills with design thinking, visualisation techniques, and plenty of prototyping over the course of 3 semester-long company projects.Along the way, I discovered and fuelled an interest in medical design – from my bachelor thesis to my master thesis – and hopefully to my future as well. I am currently looking for industrial design work after graduating this past summer.I would fit well in a company that gets excited about new technologies and that values how to integrate these into a user-centred product. Medical design is my current focus, but I am open to other fields that fit this bill.

Student ProjectVumc School Of Medical Sciences Sep 2023 - Jan 2024Amsterdam, North Holland, NetherlandsWorked with the Department of Hematology at the VUMC, where people are treated for blood cancer, to try and improve the stay of patients through design. I focused on design for interaction through the senses to encourage the wandering of the mind when the body cannot. This project was for the course Advanced Concept Design in my Masters studies. -
Student ProjectDorc Dutch Ophthalmic Research Center (International) Feb 2023 - Jun 2023Delft, South Holland, NetherlandsConducted a 6-person student project with DORC to redesign a cataract surgery tool to be more sustainable with regard to the three pillars: environmental, social and economic. I sketched, prototyped, machined, interviewed, and tested throughout the process.
