With a heart to serve the nation and a natural inclination to be a leader of men, Esmond decided to accept a scholarship from the Navy, while serving National Service. Since graduation, Esmond has served tours that specialized in Navigation, Weapons Systems, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Strategic Naval Warfare, Anti-Air Warfare, and it culminated in a hand-picked role of a Senior Operations Officer onboard a stealth frigate. An expert in Operational Planning, through the years Esmond has organized and led teams in the overall execution of numerous local, bilateral and multilateral exercises. Esmond's swansong in the Navy was the role of the Lead Planner for RIMPAC 2012, a 3 month voyage from Singapore to Guam, Hawaii, Yokosuka and Zhanjiang to take part in the most high profile international naval exercise conducted once every 2 years. The exercise included an unprecedented dual harpoon missile firing, which was perfectly executed.
