I’m diversity and inclusion scholar. I earned my PhD from the University of Michigan’s School of Kinesiology. My dissertation examined the underrepresentation of Black women in sport leadership through a critique of organizational elements. This culminated in the creation of the Sport Intersectional Model of Power (SIMP) that highlighted organizational elements that were a hindrance to Black women in leadership. My research ignited several passions for me: 1) Diversifying organizational leadership 2) creating equitable and inclusive organizations and 3) Merging academia and practice. I believe that all organizational leadership should be reflective of the communities they serve or hope to serve and organizations need to be equitable and inclusive. Additionally, academia and practice have the ability to inform each other and should be done in collaboration with communities.When I’m not immersed in research I am an avid sports fan, reading for joy, and living a life that will leave this world a better place. I am eager to continue working on those passions and excited to continue building on the foundation I laid for myself during my PhD journey.
