I applied targeted policy research and financial modeling to the analysis of North American power markets and utility resource planning, helping clients understand and navigate the risks and opportunities of their investment decisions. My work spanned: renewable energy and energy storage project development, M&A, and business strategy; federal and state energy, environmental, and climate policy; ISO/RTO market rules; retail electric choice policy; integrated resource planning; and electric vehicle policy and infrastructure.

Bike & Build is a nonprofit organization that benefits affordable housing and empowers young adults to pursue civic service through its service-oriented cross-country cycling trips. As one of four trip leaders on Bike & Build's Central United States route, I:(1) Worked with churches, community centers, campgrounds, and fitness centers to secure donated food, showers, and places for us to sleep and store our equipment;(2) Arranged days for my team to volunteer on build sites with various affordable housing organizations;(3) Used online resources, previous years' notes, and knowledge from local bike shops across the country to design the safest possible routes between towns;(4) Worked with a quarter of my 36-person team to ensure they met their various requirements for joining the trip, including training 500+ miles, fundraising at least $4,800, volunteering for 10+ hours on a build site, and participating in the Bike & Build-curated affordable housing curriculum;(5) Completed those same rider requirements, including fundraising over $7,500;(6) Managed all riders and logistics during the 10-week cross-country cycling trip, inclusive of 12 volunteer days with affordable housing organizations;(7) Managed the team's support vehicles and finances; and(8) Biked 3 of every 4 days on the route and drove the team van and trailer on the other days.Since finishing the trip, I have served in a continuing advisory role, including helping to interview leaders for future trips, serving as selected leaders' mentors, reviewing new routes as an added safety check, and supporting periodic fundraising drives to benefit the organization and the affordable housing cause.

The OUCC's mission is "to represent all Indiana consumers to ensure quality, reliable utility services at the most reasonable prices possible through dedicated advocacy, consumer education and creative problem solving."At OUCC, I served the role of an Environmental Analyst in the Resource Planning and Communications division for a five month appointment. In this role, I:(1) Reviewed filings from electric utility proceedings (including rate cases) and conducted independent industry research;(2) Drafted data requests and testimony on a variety of clean energy development cases; (3) Worked with a major utility on the design of a community solar and economic development program; and(4) Wrote white papers and memos about and presented on renewable energy markets and various environmental laws.

I joined Energy Systems Network in a part-time contract role to help the team develop its Energy Storage Roadmap report. As part of the team, I:(1) Organized, reviewed, and analyzed data and conclusions from a variety of industry reports on energy storage;(2) Authored the economic and policy sections of the report; and(3) Helped draft responses to several industry questions about the future of energy storage.

I provided targeted analyses for the Department of Defense on supply chain management and mapping to assist with sustainability and resiliency goals.

I served as a research assistant to the Dean of Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs on a project funded by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers. As part of the project team, I:(1) Conducted extensive research on the 2017-2025 federal requirements for vehicle fuel economy and the 2025 California zero-emission vehicle requirements;(2) Developed methodologies for estimating some of the parameters to be used in the team's macroeconomic models; (3) Analyzed the effect of electric vehicle growth on energy and peak demand under different utility rate structures; and(4) Co-authored a report making recommendations for these standards based on the modeling results.

As an intern with the White House Council on Environmental Quality's Energy and Climate Change team during President Obama's last year in office, I:(1) Conducted extensive research in support of and helped write sections of the U.S. Mid-Century Strategy for Deep Decarbonization;(2) Drafted comments for rules under interagency review with implications for energy and climate policy;(3) Provided timely and detailed research support for a wide variety of energy- and climate-related projects, including on net metering and state retail electricity market reforms; and(4) Assisted with logistics for CEQ-hosted events.

As part of the CRS team, I:(1) Reviewed and processed verification reports detailing the supply and sales of renewable energy certificates, contacting traders to resolve any identified disparities;(2) Conducted research on public opinion of solar panels and their effect on property value as well as on the policy impacts of requiring the use of renewable energy certificate tracking systems for certification; and(3) Wrote public-facing materials explaining the rationale behind biomass certification.

I provided research support for a professor for a project funded by the Indiana Department of Transportation. As part of this team, I:(1) Studied public perception of alternatives to the fuel tax;(2) Prepared, designed, and facilitated focus groups in Indiana;(3) Used the focus group results to design a state-wide questionnaire;(4) Analyzed both the qualitative focus group and quantitative questionnaire data; and(5) Co-authored the final report, detailing all background research, study methods, data, and results.

I operated and monitored a molecular beam epitaxy system to grow and study quantum nanostructures. The primary goal of my research involved developing a technique to fabricate quantum dots of precise sizes at specified locations on nanomaterials for quantum memory applications.

As a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) student with the Center for the Exploration of Energy and Matter at Indiana University, I helped design an adiabatic fast-passage neutron spin flipper to be used in an experiment which will search for the rotation of the plane of polarization of a neutron as it passes through a meter of liquid helium.

I led review sessions (equivalent to recitations) for an introductory physics class twice a week. I also graded homework and quizzes and reviewed tests for the professors, giving feedback when necessary.
