Essam E. Rifaat was born in Geddah, Saudi Arabia in 1982, Essam is an Egyptian architect, artist, and academic. He studied architecture and urban planning at the faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University. After graduation in 2004, he joined the academic staff of Fine Arts faculty in university of Alexandria as a teaching assistant and researcher, recently he is a PhD Candidate after getting his MSc degree in 2010. Essam’s principal activities are to manage teaching of visual studies, observational drawing, modeling, and basic design curriculum(s) for both formative and advanced levels of education. Essam seeks advance in new instructional methods to offer opportunities for students to think and work creatively, and heightening their expression and observation mechanisms and aesthetic cognition to formulate productions in different ways.Beside his endeavor to consolidate a different teaching profile based on exposing his students to purposeful modules and projects which depict successful solutions to the problems they are asked to address, Essam is recently doing his academic research on the examination of art in public space in Alexandria from a populist view, addressing issues of urban culture, national values, identity, heritage, and public censorship.In addition to his studies and career which includes also subsidiary occupations as workshop instructor, senior architect and freelancer artist in Alexandria and Cairo for 10 years, Essam was motivated by special concept art standards. In 2012 he launched his collective art series AMARANTOS in which he experiences his individualist approach through visual thinking, monitors his psycho-mythological observations of various themes and narratives, and also, his collective activities such as workshops and teaching projects in the fields of arts, architecture, and urban planning.
