Esteban Muñoz studied performance, musicology, and art history at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and has completed a master’s degree in Dramaturgy at the Bavarian Theater Academy. He began his artistic career as a stage manager at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile, where he later acted as assistant director and production manager. He has worked together with many directors around the world including Calixto Bieito, Barrie Kosky, Michael Hampe, Emilio Sagi, Christian Boesch, Balázs Kovalik and Hugo de Ana in productions of the Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile, Teatro del Lago (Chile), Houston Grand Opera, Opéra de Lausanne, Munich Biennale, the Prinzregentheater in Munich and numerous open-air opera productions. He has also worked very closely with La Fura dels Baus and Carlus Padrissa since 2011. In 2013, Esteban was awarded the ProArte Prize for Young Artist of the Year in Chile. His most recent engagements include Prokofiev’s The Fiery Angel with Barrie Kosky at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Houston Grand Opera and the new stage production of Halevy’s La Juive with Calixto Bieito at the Bavarian State Opera. He is also currently a staff member of the Komische Oper in Berlin. Upcoming productions include Stravinsky’s Petrushka and Ravel’s L’enfent et les sortilèges with the theater group "1927" at the Komische Oper Berlin and Wagner’s Götterdämmerung with Carlus Padrissa at the Houston Grand Opera.
