About Esteban Perreault
Bonjour Hi!I am Esteban Perreault, a mechanical engineering student at McGill University. I am passionate about the aerospace and high-speed rail industries, in which I hope to make significant contributions through my design, research, and leadership skills. I am currently co-Lead of the Propulsion department of the McGill Rocket Team, a student-led club which designs and builds rockets to participate in intercollegiate competitions such as Launch Canada. In addition to this more than two years-long continuous student club experience, I gained both research and industry experience through multiple summer internships, allowing me to discover multiple aspects of the engineering profession. As an English-French bilingual speaker with an international background – having lived in Berlin, Paris, Singapore and Montréal - I am quick to adapt to different environments and love to challenge myself through both academic and practical trials.

Mcgill Rocket Team Propulsion Co-Subteam Lead
Co-Leading the design of the propulsion subsystem for a 60,000 ft (18.3 km) apogee rocket, managing a team of 45 people and a budget of +9k $. Building on the team’s experience with in-house hybrid rocket engines, currently designing our next generation of motor with twice the peak thrust and quadruple the total impulse compared to least year’s design.
Mcgill Rocket Team Propulsion Project Lead
As Project Lead of the Unified Fill-Dump Valve project, I lead the creation of a student researched and developed fill-dump valve for our liquid oxidizer, reducing the system's mass, improving assembly and reliability. The valve had to be oxidizer-compatible, and was tested up to 1300 psi. This project included literature review, design, manufacturing and testing of various components. I also had the chance to get a training to use a CNC mill and lathe, which later allowed me to manufacture an injector and valve pistons. Finally, I had the chance to participate at the Launch Canada competition, during which the team presented our rocket, Thorondor.
Mcgill Rocket Team - Propulsion Member
The McGill Rocket Team aims to create a Student Researched & Developed hybrid-powered rocket to participate in international competitions such as the Spaceport America Cup and Launch Canada. As a member of the propulsion subteam, I created an attachment feature in the intertank assembly to connect a piston to the fill/dump valve. This year was marked by Porthos' launch, successfully demonstrating the team's capability of launching a hybrid engine-propelled rocket.
Summer Undergraduate Research In Engineering (Sure) Intern At Mcgill'S Alternative Fuels Laboratory
As a SURE program intern at McGill's Alternative Fuels Laboratory, I was assisting graduate students with their research on metal-air combustion, under the supervisions of professor Jeffrey Bergthorson.Metals are very energy dense and can react with air to release their energy during their combustion, which could power electric power plants or heat engines on large vehicles. Understanding how this process occurs will unlock the possibility to use metals as conveyors of energy to replace fossil fuels, helping to decarbonize the trade of energy on a global scale. As a SURE student, I worked on determining solid silicon's flame temperature using emission spectroscopy.
Internship At Airbus Canada In The Industrialization Section Of Pre-Fal
Manufacturing engineering internship in the pre-FAL (Final Assembly Line) of Airbus' Mirabel facility: project management to increase the factory's production capability. Stage en génie manufacturer dans la section pré-FAL (ligne d'assemblage finale) industrialisation du site de Mirabel d’Airbus Canada: gestion de projet dans le but d'accélérer la cadence de production.
