Into The Fields Intern
Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina Area
As an intern for the Into the Fields program, I worked with the Student Action with Farmworkers NPO advocating for farmworkers rights through lobbying, advocating, educating, and especially through the health care sector. I was in South Carolina during this time, working with South Carolina Primary Health Care Association for a health program explicitly for agriculture workers in SC. I would travel to different farms every day in the Greenville, Anderson, Spartanburg, Oconee, Chester, and York counties to provide farmworkers health care services and educational presentations about their health. During the farm visits, I would promote the SCAgW Health Care Voucher program to the farmworkers and their families so they can receive accessible medical and dental care. I also participated in Clemson University's mobile clinic events assisting within the mobile clinic by and translating, documenting, and assisting with the initial screenings. As a part of the internship, interns participated in a peaceful boycotting event for farmworkers rights in regards to the VUSE E-cigarettes treatment of the agriculture workers. Interns also participated in lobbying to state representatives of NC against HB 730.
