This role is responsible for leading a large team of investigators to conduct tax investigations in accordance with Investigations Branch activities, policies and the legislation. This includes managing and overseeing the conduct of sensitive and/or complex investigations by individuals, setting priorities and managing workloads by effective delegation, resource allocation and managing upwards, managing team performance effectively through mentoring, counselling and conflict resolution, providing support, advice and guidance to team members in audit, investigation and taxation matters, assist in the professional development of team members, understand and actively apply all people policies including performance management, liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure greater customer service, negotiate with taxpayers, represent the SRO on dealings with senior executives of public and private sector organisations and contribute to planning of strategic compliance activities.

Project manage the volume recruitment of staff to the State Revenue Office. The first recruitment project involved in excess of 80 staff being offered ongoing roles. The second project involved the recruitment in excess of 70 Investigation Branch positions for ongoing roles, including the tendering for a recruitment agency to assist with the process and project managing the entire process with both internal and external stakeholder management as well as coordinating the on-boarding and maintaining ongoing relationships with new staff prior to their commencement.

In July 2013 I successfully set up the initial Land Tax Compliance Program using well developed people management and organisational skills. This involved recruiting, arranging training and setting the direction and vision for the program to follow. I successfully managed, motivated and led a team of up to 22 investigators (the majority of whom had no investigative experience and were new to the State Revenue Office)I identified areas for process improvements and implemented changes using risk management skillsI also contributed to providing the developers, business analysts and testers with the specifications and functionality the business required of the new computer system that allowed automated investigations to be conducted as well as co-ordinated the introduction and implementation of the new system.

Acted as Program Manager on a number of occasions whilst also performing my role as Team Leader of a very large team. One of these roles was for six months and two other occasions were for two and half months each. This involved leading and managing the Land Tax Compliance Program and staff to ensure the program’s objectives were achieved as well as preparing and presenting period status and performance reports to the State Revenue Office Executive and Department of Treasury and Finance. I was also responsible to provide high level reporting advice to the Executive Director Compliance on the development and implementation of compliance strategies, projects, policies and procedures.
