About Donald Estes

Donald Estes has over 20 years of experience conducting research, analysis, and war gaming support to the Department of Defense, DHS, other government agencies and commercial clients. During his career as a naval officer in military intelligence, Don held the Military Chair of Intelligence and was a professor in Joint Military Operations at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, and commanded several intelligence units. In his tours of duty at the Naval War College, and more recently as leader of the Sonalysts Team conducting war games and tabletop exercise, he has been involved in designing, executing, and analysis of more than 150 games/workshops, and experiments examining concepts for the deployment of military forces, and continuity of operations for DHS, FEMA, and other government operations. In the last ten years, he and his team also conducted games for large corporations to develop strategies and plans, and to examine existing strategies, including strategies and plans to respond to contingencies, including acts of terrorism. Other games included examination of emerging or disruptive technology implications for corporations, crisis communications, corporate decision-making training, and continuity of operations determination.Specialties: War Gaming, COOP, Strategy Development, Crisis Planning

Researched the cyber insider threat and developed a concept for a serious game for the U.S. Air Force to assist supervisors in identifying and managing the insider cyber threat to their organizations. ➢ Private Corporations• Large insurance company (game to develop strategy to grow revenues from $250 million to $1 billion )• Large entertainment groups (multiple games: team building, future business development, competition’s response to new business initiatives, security & counter-terrorism, union avoidance)• Large Aircraft Engine Manufacturing Company (Examined new business strategy and potential competition to the strategy. The strategy was subsequently implemented.)
