I worked for 8 1/2 years at No Frills, where I started off as a cashier where my duties were to check out customers orders receive payment and process accordingly. Then I got promoted to an override position where I was able to help out other cashiers with price differences, if items exceeded our limit I was able to override the limit so the cashier could continue with the order. After having the override position for a couple of years I was then promoted to front-end supervisor/cash office. With this position I was responsible for the entire front end during my shift which included assigning the cashiers their till that they would be working on for their shift and supervising the work that they were doing, I would also be responsible for making sure that the cashiers were going on their breaks when they needed to and were coming back on time. In addition to watching the front-end I was also responsible for ensuring that the duties and requirements in the cash office were met. This included printing off and filing reports for the opening and closing of the store, loaning money to cash trays before the store opened and counting the cash trays after it was used for the day. make sure that our money safe was always in balance in the mornings throughout the day and at the end of the day. I would also process and cheques that the store received and be responsible for collecting an morning and evening deposit of the excess money from the tills and on occasion be responsible for getting our deposits ready to be pick up. I would also be helping customers with problems or questions whether it was on the phone or in store.
