I taught both Key Stages 1 and 2 during my time in primary schools. Alongside the general responsibilities of teaching, I developed a real interest in nurturing children socially and emotionally. I observed other professionals and subsequently designed and implemented my own strategies that would provide support for those with SEMH needs, as well as whole class approaches to support wellbeing. An example of this was a series of therapeutic art sessions I held with a Year 3 class, based on Csikszentmihalyi's theory of Flow. The sessions aimed to promote mindfulness and a positive sense of self. My time in schools made me realise that I wanted to devote more time to supporting children with their social and emotional needs. This sparked my move to Staffordshire Virtual School.
