- Monitor protection standards, operational procedures and practices in protection delivery in line with international standards and provide functional support to information management and programme staff.- Build and maintain effective interfaces with communities of concern, local authorities and protection and assistance partners - Consistently apply International and National Law and applicable UN/UNHCR and IASC policy, standards and codes of conduct.- Provide counselling on protection issues to persons of concern; liaise with competent authorities to ensure the issuance of personal and other relevant documentation.- Support activities in protection related AGD based programming with implementing and operational partners.- Conduct preliminary information gathering and interviews in support of eligibility, status determination, durable solutions and social needs assessment.- Contribute to measures to identify, prevent and reduce statelessness.- Contribute to a country-level child protection plan as part of the protection strategy.- Contribute to a country-level education plan for persons of concern as part of the protection strategy.- Monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all protection/solutions activities.- Participate in individual protection case management including cases of SGBV and child protection.- Monitor and report on cases of refoulement, expulsion and other protection incidents.- Assist in identifying durable solutions for persons of concern.- Contribute to the design, implementation and evaluation of protection related AGD based programming with implementing and operational partners.- Assist in drafting reports, routine correspondence, updating relevant databases and compiling statistics for the protection unit/section.- Contribute to initiatives to enhance national and local protection capacities.

- On a daily basis, interviews beneficiaries, including minors, with RFL needs, and responds to their enquiries, including by documenting RFL cases, providing phone calls, collecting and delivering Red Cross Messages- Ensures appropriate follow-up of cases requiring active tracing in the field- Maintains regular contact with enquirers obtaining and providing updates when/if available- Organises field trips for all RFL-related activities- Participates in assessments in Maiduguri and Borno state, if situations allows, to identify potential RFL needs and/or RFL follow up- Maintains close coordination with the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) volunteers on RFL- Disseminates on ICRC and RFL activities with formal and informal levels of audience- Develops and maintains positive working relations with community leaders and contributes to the acceptance of the ICRC and RFL activities- Provides field trip reports and regular, punctual updates on the RFL caseload- Contributes to the filing of documents related to the RFL caseload

Work Schedule: - Responsible for the implementation of protection and gender project activities and protection mainstreaming in Mercy Corps northeast Nigeria program portfolio; - Assist in strengthening the organizational capacity to address protection risks in the context of northeast Nigeria; - Responsible for the implementation of strategies and activities developed to address and mitigate protection risks; - Work extensively with other sectors to ensure that protection principles are being incorporated into all program activities to strengthen the integrated nature of Mercy Corps’ work; - Provide technical inputs and guidance to protection interventions; - Conduct workshops and trainings for Mercy Corps staff, community leaders and volunteers and women’s groups to promote and institutionalize protection principles- Participate in cross-departmental collaboration and coordination in order to ensure that protection is mainstreamed into all program activities; - Support the roll out of protection best practices based on the operational context of northeast Nigeria; - Contribute to the implementation of assessments, monitoring and analysis to better understand and respond to protection risks; - Ensure the effective implementation and integration of gender sensitive monitoring and evaluation systems and protection monitoring methodologies into all stages of the program; - Participate in the design, planning and implementation of protection activities to ensure that protection activity objectives are met; - Supervise psychosocial support to survivors of GBV, including case management and referrals; Referral of cases to appropriate organizations - Prepare internal and external reports on protection activities within agreed deadlines as required; - Represent Mercy Corps as required in working relationships with all stakeholders - including NGOs, clusters, UN agencies and community based organizations to enhance cooperation and coordination;

• Monitoring and documenting human rights abuses by collecting and analysing information from a wide variety of sources including government, local media, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), journalists, diplomats, security forces and others in the field;• litigation;• Writing and publicizing reports, briefing papers, letters, news releases, op-eds, and submissions to international bodies based on the findings of the Coalitions research;• Responding promptly to queries from various advocacy targets as well as the media, public and civil society colleagues;• Presenting human rights concerns to government officials, opinion leaders, inter-governmental agencies, and the media;• Working closely with colleague NGOs and local human rights organizations to engage in joint advocacy efforts and ensure that NCICC’s work complements their own work;• Liaising effectively with other CICC on the continent to ensure effective coordination of activities;• Develop new projects for NCICC and raise funds to implement those projects;• Prepare reports of projects activities for project funders and members;• Edit and produce periodic newsletter for the coalition;• Update regularly the coalition website, communication with members, and with other partners are in contact update;• Carry out duties assigned by the steering committee.

Assist in writing of Internal and External Memos, writing Legal Opinions, Assist in vetting of Legal Documents, filing of documents at the courts and Corporate Affairs Commission and any other duty as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of Department.
