I am a driven BSc Neuroscience and MSc Psychology graduate, currently worker as an assistant clinical psychologist, after developing my skills, practically, as a child and family support worker in Somerset Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). Alongside my studies I worked as a residential care worker at the Deaf Academy, working to support deaf individuals with additional, complex needs. Prior to this, I worked with both the ‘Cerebra Network for Neurodevelopmental Disorders’ and the ‘Children and Young People’s Mental Health Research Collaboration’ completing summer internships. Both opportunities have enabled me to explore my research interests, of neurodevelopment and mental health, in more depth. I hope to further explore these interests within a range of ethnically and culturally diverse contexts, with the aim of increasing access to psychology. The skills I developed within these roles have complemented my considerable volunteering experience, working with a variety of individuals, focused on children with neurodevelopmental disorders.My experience of working in research roles as well as more clinical roles has provided me with a unique perspective on the importance of the translation of research to practice. It has also highlighted significant gaps in research, mainly due to limited diversity in research participants. I hope to take what I have learned forward to begin a career focused on alternative communication and tailored mental health interventions to improve access to psychological intervention, especially for people from underrepresented groups, across all ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
