Esther Armah is CEO of The Armah Institute of Emotional Justice (AIEJ); a global institute operationalising racial healing, institutionalising wellness and sustainable equity by creating resources and tools. The AIEJ does this through: Training, Projects and Thought-Leadership. The AIEJ centers Equity and Empathy, and our approach is storytelling as a strategy for structural change. 'Emotional Justice' is a racial healing roadmap and visionary framework created by Armah. It engages and explores how a legacy of untreated trauma from global histories of systemic injustice shape how we learn, lead, work. The framework names and identifies the emotional work each demographic has to do - white, Black, Brown and Indigenous. It was created and developed from 15 years of research, assignment and communal engagement across New York, Accra, South Africa, Ghana, Philadelphia, Chicago and London. Armah was an award-winning international journalist who has worked in London, New York and across Africa. Armah engages her skillset as a journalist, playwright, activist to lead The AIEJ's global team based in Accra, Chicago, the UK. Armah lived and worked in New York for 8 years. She was a multi media journalist and playwright, a radio show host on Pacifica WBAI's morning talk show 'Wake Up Call', and a television political commentator on MSNBC, CNN, GRITtv, BET and MSNBC As a writer, her work has been published in Gawker, AlterNet.org, Salon.com, The Huffington Post. Esther has written 5 plays - all of which were produced on stages in New York, Chicago and Accra. Armah is creator of 'THE SPIN', a podcast produced via BBC Accra, Ghana and NPR New York. The Spin aired across the US in New Jersey, Arizona, Iowa, Atlanta, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi and globally in Accra, Ghana. In London. Esther was a reporter, investigative documentary maker, radio documentary maker and worked in front of and behind the camera with the BBC in London for nearly 10 years. Her written pieces were published in 'The Guardian', and 'West Africa magazine'. As a reporter with the BBC she travelled to Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Lesotho. She is currently living in Ghana, and working across New York and London.
