Some of the campaigns also empower communities around the retreats with education, plus an alternative source of income and nutrition. I manage the implementation of the projects, and collaborations, plus their social media and blogs content. Earth Legacy Foundation partners with the marine conservation initiative founded by Esther, Keep Fin Alive, to implement number of environmental and educational projects locally.

Her path has woven through marine eco-tourism, research, and conservation institutions, where she has served as the digital herald for their pioneering projects and scientific breakthroughs. As a co-author of three scientific papers, she understands the critical role of research and empirical data in advancing conservation efforts. Her expertise was further enhanced in 2023 with a Project Management for Wildlife Conservation qualification from WildTeam.Esther’s heart beats for conservation and the enigmatic allure of wildlife. She’s determined to preserve the natural wonders she adored as a child for her daughters, ensuring they too can bask in the beauty of our planet. In the office, she’s known for her lighthearted yet earnest enforcement of eco-friendly practices, notably through the “naughty jar” for any single-use plastic offenders.

Oceans Research provides and facilitates innovative and dynamic research relevant to the management and conservation of Southern Africa’s wildlife.Its research is interdisciplinary ranging from biological to socio-economic studies of marine and terrestrial resource utilisation in Southern Africa’s coastal society. Oceans Research specialises in investigating the biology and ecology of mega-fauna, including sharks, marine mammals and terrestrial carnivores; we advise governmental and non-governmental bodies on relevant conservation issues.Oceans Research offers multi-disciplinary practical and theoretical training for aspiring researchers from internship to postgraduate levels in conjunction with partner schools, technical colleges and universities. In addition to the in-house research projects, the institute provides facilities for visiting marine scientists conducting a variety of projects throughout the major marine biomes of Southern Africa.Oceans Research strives to divulgate its research finding not only to the scientific community but also, and even more importantly, to the general public, through its website, media releases, scientific and popular articles, and documentaries.My responsibilities include:- managing all aspects of the social media platforms.- scientist interviews and science blogs for online, print and radio.- recording research projects via film and photography.- producing regular short films to publish via social media on our marine research projects and expeditions.

This program offers a diverse itinerary to suit the expectations of a broad cross section of participants. This offers hands on approach to working not only with Great White Sharks, but also other species of sharks in the area. The ultimate goals of the program is education, public awareness, the advance of shark science and the conservation of all shark species.To date I have had over 1,000 encounters with Great White Sharks in Mossel Bay.A summary of my role with White Shark Africa Eco Program is listed below:* Oversee the education of interns on our tagging program, leading research expeditions aboard vessels to tag sharks and record data in varying weather and sea conditions.* Co-ordinate expeditions, including: preparation of equipment for research, overseeing and recording shark data and instructing in the proper handling and tagging of sharks.* Help to crew and skipper research vessels, and ensure the safety of clients and interns.* Organise ocean awareness, environmental and community campaigns and events.

Esther has more than a decade of experience in marketing and communications with a focus on publishing.She recently worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in credit card acquisitions managing online marketing campaigns and working with clients delivering joint venture cards. Esther gained an BA in Communications and Media at Fife College.
