During my PhD I have obtained a deep knowledge in data analyses of large scale data (DNA): from data cleaning to data interference and the development of a statistical pipeline (in R and Python). After that I've worked a couple of years as a data engineer / BI specialist. Mainly at KPN and which I really enjoyed. Since a few years, I'm in the process of turning the direction of my ship. Which came with many little steps and lessons. We will soon take a big step by moving (for me back) to Groningen city. My character:- passion for numbers, data & food- solution & opportunity thinking- result driven - good listener- 'get things done' mentality- attention for details- go the extra mile- strong personality- little rebel- good sense of humor- pro-active- there is always a way

Data EngineerKpn Feb 2018 - Sep 2020AmsterdamDuring my time at KPN I worked, with a great team, on a data engineering project that we called ‘KPN Households’. In this project we developed and implemented new pipelines in which multiple data sources were integrated, in order to enable the data analysts and data scientists of the financial department to steer on the revenue generated by KPN households and taking data-driven decisions. In the implementation phase of this project I had the role of data engineer, in which I developed multiple ETL data pipelines in order to move data from the landing zone to the data lake and/or data warehouse (using Airflow as a scheduler). For the continuous integration of the newly developed parts I used Jenkins, Git and SQL and Bash scripting. In the testing phase of this project, I also took the role of data analyst to validate correctness of our implementation.Skills: Data Engineering · Analytical Skills · Agile/Scrum · Python (Programming Language) · R · SQL · Data Visualization · Bash Scripting · Microsoft Power BI · Big Data · Jenkins · Git · Informatica PowerCenter · Teradata · Oracle SQL Developer · Hadoop · Statistics -
FundraiserKnowledge For Children Jan 2017 - May 2017Amsterdam & UgandaAfter finishing my PhD I had the urge to return something to the world and decided to dedicate my life to others for a couple of months. I set the goal 1) to collect €7500,-, by which I could adopt a full primary school in Uganda via NGO 'Knowledge for Children' and 2) to run a half marathon in the hills of Masaka, Uganda by June 2017. During a 5 month period -and via multiple projects-, I managed to raise an amazing €8000,-, and adopted a primary school with 300 pupils in Mpigi, Uganda. Which helped to read and count properly. I also ran a half marathon in the hills of Masaka, Uganda. Link to interview: https://ugandamarathon.com/interview-ugm-runner-esther-lips/ -
Phd Trainee (Bioinformatics / Data Science)Cncr, Center For Neurogenomics & Cognitive Research Oct 2009 - Jan 2017Amsterdam Area, NetherlandsSubject: Gene hunting in complex traits During my PhD, I have developed a gene-set association tool that is applicable to Genome Wide Association data, which was named JAG (Joint Association of Genetic variants). This tool is initially written for own purposes in bash, Python & R code (cluster computing/SurfSara). In second phase, this tool rewritten in Python with the aim to develop a high flexible tool and the goal to release it freely online for use by others ( published in Genes, May 2015). The tool can be found here: https://cncr.nl/research/jag/During the development of this tool, I've performed a meta-analysis on 3 independent Schizophrenia case/control samples (~ 10,000 subjects) and found that multiple sets of functional related synaptic genes show association with Schizophrenia (Lips et al - Mol. Psych, 2011). These functional genesets where constructed in-house on the basis of expert knowledge. I also conducted this type of analysis on Bipolar Disorder and on different functional gene-sets.In the final stage of my PhD project I evaluated the differences in several network properties and types of mutations for monogenic and complex disease genes.I also taught 'Human Molecular genetics' to medical students. (book: T. Strachan & A. Read - Human Molecular Genetics)Courses followed: - Biostatistics- Quantitative Genetics - Regression Analysis- RNA-seq- Developmental Neurobiology- Functional Neuroatonomy- Neuropsychofarmacology- Presentation in English -
