I am proud to be the first generation in my family of immigrants to go to college in the United States. Through mentoring first-generation high school students to win full-tuition scholarships to their top colleges, serving as a Spanish interpreter for uninsured patients in free clinics, and learning about the intersections of healthcare access and immigration, I am committed to combatting barriers for the communities who have tirelessly worked hard, raised me to work hard to appreciate the resources we often take for granted, and empowered me to improve access to such resources, including healthcare and higher education.Follow me as I often reflect on my past experiences within and outside of the classroom, as well as the many lessons I have learned as a advocate, mentor, and student!

Scripps College Academy College MentorScripps College Aug 2023 - PresentClaremont, California, United StatesStudents of color in the greater Los Angeles area often lack the necessary resources to prepare for and apply to college. Scripps College Academy aims to bridge that gap for first-generation, low-income female students. As a college mentor, I not only mentored such students to apply to college but also achieved a 100% mentee acceptance rate to win full-tuition scholarships through the Posse Foundation and the Gates Scholarship, receive mentorship through the Questbridge College Prep Scholars Program, and a 75% mentee acceptance rate for the finalist round of the Questbridge National College Match. -
Spanish Interpreter & Education Lead5C Community Care Apr 2023 - PresentClaremont, California, United States5C Community Care partners with the Pomona Community Health Action Team, Western University of Health Sciences, and the INSAN Foundation in the greater Los Angeles area to provide opportunities for undergraduates to gain patient experience within a clinical setting and serve their local communities. As a Spanish interpreter, I translated for patients speaking English as a second language at regular free health clinics and fairs in partnership with the Western University of Health Sciences, INSAN Foundation, and Pomona Community Health Action Team. To alleviate the language barriers that immigrants are often faced with, I helped them to understand providers’ recommendations on improving their health and wellness. Furthermore, I ensured patients were taken care of by giving directions to nearby low-cost health centers, all the way to informing them about how to maintain their blood sugar and interpret their blood sugar readings. As the education lead, I led the first organization-wide educational initiative to increase knowledge and usage of health resources specifically for immigrants, distributing pamphlets about free health clinics and fairs and social services in collaboration with 5C Health Link, a fellow organization at the Claremont Colleges, at the first Pop-Up Immigration Clinic at Pitzer College.
