I help businesses craft and share engaging stories that connect with their target audiences. With over 30 years of experience as a writer, editor, and social media expert, I've written and edited thousands of articles, books, white papers, and more on a wide range of topics, especially on tech topics. As a content strategist, I have led and developed content teams, coached and mentored writers, and managed editorial calendars and content performance. Most recently, I was senior content marketing manager at Redis, where I put sparkle into everything from blog posts to product landing pages -- and I generated results to back up the value of doing so. That was accomplished by establishing social media strategies for content marketing websites and journalism outlets, with a few oh-my viral posts now and then. Not to mention awards from industry associations. My mission is to make geeky material understandable and useful, and to create content that people insist on reading all the way to the end.

Editorial DirectorTransmission Feb 2022 - Jun 2022London, London, Gb -
Managing EditorTransmission Mar 2021 - Feb 2022London, London, GbI managed a small team of staff writers and copy editors as well as freelance content writers. The team created irresistible e-books, white papers, guides, and other content that got attention from target readers, educated business and tech people, and helped them make better business decisions. I made sure that people wanted to read our content all the way to the end. I collaborated with other smart, accomplished people including creative professionals, project managers, account managers, social media, research, and activation, and presented the results to clients. Together, we brainstormed the brilliant content ideas we proposed, made sure the copy served our B2B clients (with a heavy emphasis on IT decision makers), and remained annoyingly relentless about quality. And I herded all the cats to make that happen. -
Managing EditorHewlett Packard Enterprise Dec 2016 - Aug 2019Houston, Texas, UsI served as one of three editors managing HPE’s content marketing site, Enterprise.Nxt. The online publication provided useful, actionable, and entertaining information to IT professionals on technical topics. When I touched the articles, it generally was all three. During my tenure, we grew the site from 500K to 1.2 million pageviews per year. -
Chief Editor, TechnologyDruva Jul 2014 - Sep 2015Santa Clara, California, UsI was the "brand journalist" at Druva, which employed both my journalist and researcher mindsets, as well as my social media skills and general geeky friendliness. On the company's blog, I published articles about IT that resonated with the enterprise/techie audience and drew them further into the company's website. I worked with internal subject matter experts to turn their "Oh THIS is how that works!" into articles that people actively wanted to read. I also edited corporate messaging documents such as white papers and positioning statements, developed cool new content marketing media (such as a podcast), and generally did my best to attract the right eyeballs. Based on website traffic... that worked really well. -
Editorial DirectorSoftware Quality Connection Oct 2010 - Apr 2014This online community sponsored by SmartBear Software (and since rolled back into a blog hosted on the SmartBear site) was focused on the interests of software developers, testers, and IT professionals in the trenches. The community, launched in March 2011, provided an unfiltered platform to help practitioners discuss their views with peers and experts, stay up to date on the latest trends, talk about career issues, learn how to improve the quality of their software, share the problems that matter most to them, and occasionally, laugh – with no corporate red tape to get in the way. I created and managed the editorial calendar, assigned and edited articles, and amplified the site content using social media

Editor In ChiefInput Output Nov 2010 - Nov 2012Input Output was a content marketing website sponsored by Hewlett-Packard and Federated Media. The site, which launched in June 2011, targeted CIOs and IT managers, for whom we published useful and entertaining articles that help them make good computing decisions.I assembled a stable of a few dozen impressive freelancers (really, you've read their work for decades) who made it easy for me to assign, edit, and publish them on a regular basis. I was responsible for social media, content amplification, and constant reminders that everything in the world is improved by chocolate. In its second year, Input Output expanded. It went international: I had five European editors reporting to me, in addition to six U.S. bloggers who published weekly. The site also encompassed conference coverage, video interviews, and infographics, in addition to the feature articles published every weekday. We were an unmitigated social media success, with pageview traffic that makes people say Wow. Really. They do.
