The objective of this work was to replace labour intensive, manual processes with a fully-automated inventory tracking solution for managing and controlling the cleaning, assembly, sterilization and dispatch of Operating Room and Ward instruments.While awaiting approval of Phase II of the project, I am currently leading activities to complete the operationalization the first four Phase I sites, and the standardization of medical instrumentation across Fraser Health. Operationalizing includes defining the overall support model, implementing procedures for day-to-day support, defining and documenting down-time procedures and setting up operational support groups.The process to standardize instrumentation across the Fraser Health Authority involves participants from all eleven hospitals. Standardization activities include: analysis of site-specific instrument information, reconciliation with vendor supplied information and facilitating discussions and consensus on enterprise-wide instrument descriptions. .
