Urban Habitat’s mission is to “build power in low-income communities and communities of color by combining education, advocacy, research and coalition building to advance environmental, economic, and social justice in the Bay Area.” As a member of Urban Habitat’s Management Team, I played a leadership role in defining and building the organization’s programs, infrastructure, and staffing, helping it grow from its start-up phase into a nationally recognized leader on issues of environmental, social, and economic justice.Planning and Evaluation• Led all organization-wide annual and strategic planning and evaluation efforts, and effectively engaged all staff members and board of directors. • Trained and supported staff to increase their ability to implement outcome-based planning and evaluation and workplan design/implementation.Development• Served as lead writer and grant manager for the organization. • Translated Urban Habitat’s vision, mission, programs, strategies, and impact into compelling written materials for diverse audiences, including foundation allies, individual donors, elected officials, and community partners.Organizational Capacity Building• Played a lead role in the development of new programs, campaigns, and strategies. • Played a lead role in staff recruitment, training, evaluation, and management.• Built strong systems to enhance internal communications and cross program collaboration.• Increased staff capacity to play a leadership role in the organization. • Managed contracts with technical assistance providers and consultants.Program Design and Management• Played a lead role in the planning, implementation, and oversight of the organization’s campaigns and long-range programs committed to transportation and climate justice, equitable development, environmental health and justice, and leadership development.
