Urban Habitat’s mission is to “build power in low-income communities and communities of color by combining education, advocacy, research and coalition building to advance environmental, economic, and social justice in the Bay Area.” As a member of Urban Habitat’s Management Team, I played a leadership role in defining and building the organization’s programs, infrastructure, and staffing, helping it grow from its start-up phase into a nationally recognized leader on issues of environmental, social, and economic justice.Planning and Evaluation• Led all organization-wide annual and strategic planning and evaluation efforts, and effectively engaged all staff members and board of directors. • Trained and supported staff to increase their ability to implement outcome-based planning and evaluation and workplan design/implementation.Development• Served as lead writer and grant manager for the organization. • Translated Urban Habitat’s vision, mission, programs, strategies, and impact into compelling written materials for diverse audiences, including foundation allies, individual donors, elected officials, and community partners.Organizational Capacity Building• Played a lead role in the development of new programs, campaigns, and strategies. • Played a lead role in staff recruitment, training, evaluation, and management.• Built strong systems to enhance internal communications and cross program collaboration.• Increased staff capacity to play a leadership role in the organization. • Managed contracts with technical assistance providers and consultants.Program Design and Management• Played a lead role in the planning, implementation, and oversight of the organization’s campaigns and long-range programs committed to transportation and climate justice, equitable development, environmental health and justice, and leadership development.

The French American Charitable Trust was a progressive family foundation whose mission was to "develop and sustain networks of community-based groups in the U.S. and France that educate, organize, and empower people to actively participate in developing public policies that directly affect their lives.” 1. Conducted landscape analysis and developed strategic plan for funding and supporting community- based organizations advancing environmental health and justice in California.2. Managed all aspects of grant making for grantees in California and southern United States including proposal review, assessment of grantee effectiveness, and strategic partnerships.

The San Francisco Foundation "mobilizes resources and acts as a catalyst for change to build strong communities, foster civic leadership, and promote philanthropy."1. Designed a new Environmental Health and Justice Initiative to engage health officials, community leaders, and advocacy organizations throughout the region. 2. Reviewed and evaluated proposals from potential grantees, conducted site visits, assessed organizational strengths and weaknesses, and made funding recommendations. 3. Provided information and technical assistance to community-based organizations regarding grant-making and organizational effectiveness.

The San Francisco League of Urban Gardeners was a community organization based in Bayview Hunter’s Point, CA with a mission to improve the quality of life through community gardens, horticultural education, landscape construction, open space maintenance, job training, youth programs, and membership services.1. Managed the Lead Hazard Reduction Program, which trained and employed young men and women from Bayview Hunter’s Point to use gardening and landscaping to reduce outdoor exposure to lead. 2. Designed and taught the Environmental Justice Youth Leadership Program for low-income youth of color living in Bayview Hunter’s Point.
