Ethan Bates is a comic artist and animator from Leeds, UK, currently based in London.Having recently graduated with an MA in Character Animation from UAL (Central St. Martins), Ethan is now looking for work in the world of animation, specifically in areas around rough animation, storyboarding, character design and narrative/storytelling. He has directed over 200 live action and animated videos himself as part of his own highly active art practice.Primarily, Ethan's practice comprises the writing and drawing of comics - over 500 pages of which he has worked on for various personal projects throughout his life - and working on animated projects, typically for his showreel or for personal indie projects. He now wishes to turn this passion to use in the workplace.Ethan has a keen knowledge of art history and theory - specifically in 20th century modernism - which helped enormously with both his BA Fine Art degree received at Lancaster University in 2016 and with his five-year stint working with renowned image and art licensing company Bridgeman Images from 2016 - 2021 where Ethan successfully worked his way up the ladder; firstly at sister company CultureLabel as a marketing assistant and then on the main marketing team at the parent company.As a result of this knowledge and experience, while Ethan has a huge passion for visual art and animation/comics he would be a valuable asset to any creative team and is able to provide help and assistance in a variety of areas, having worked in stage/theatre set design, concept art and costume design - all backed with extensive knowledge of art history and theory - in addition to the above.
