Designed, modeled, and prototyped a more effective three-phase brushless motor system for a Mars rover application. Through demonstration of communications with N-G Engineers and effective project planning, system requirements were defined and documented. Through problem-solving and design iteration, positive results were achieved by creating electronic signal algorithms that reduced the amount of noise-canceling material needed in the production motor design, which also significantly reduced the engine's total weight. The results were modeled by creating algorithms using MATLAB Simulink resolver encoder models and by constructing a physical prototype of the N-G apparatus that included a brushless motor, Arduino, resolver, and encoder and integrating the algorithms to digitize the resolver signal and demonstrate the system noise reduction.
