Lawson Hall

The majority of this Job takes place over the summer at Eastern Illinois University. Me and one other Guest Services Assistant supervise a staff of 20 to 30 employees. During the summer this means coordinating our linen operations on all of campus for the conferences we house throughout the summer. This Job also requires that we have a duty rotation in case of emergencies. A duty phone is rotated between me and my coworker each week. We are responsible for communicating with other departments on campus to make sure that our guests are comfortable. This job requires me to be quick and confident in my problem solving capabilities and also requires that i have the ability to think outside of the box when it comes to coming up with solutions. During the school year i help manage a floor in Lawson Hall (residence hall on campus). This floor is designated for special camps and conferences that visit Eastern Illinois University. Managing this floor requires that i maintain the rooms conditions on the floor by making the bed and doing the laundry when needed. I also help my employer with office work. This involves critical thinking and problem solving in a lot of cases. Working with limited budget and figuring out how to give guests the best experience. I also help with planning for the summer operations, and thinking through problems that arise with the employment process. I help with the interview process for our summer employees, and i also help plan their training process.
