Everyone has that moment in life when they start working at something and it just feels right, it gets you up in the morning and pushes you to work late nights. For me, that moment came when I got my first taste of running a real business at 17.As you might remember, 2020 and Covid brought a lot of change. For me, this meant losing my Lifeguarding job and switching to online school. However, I noticed an opportunity for something special. At the age of 17, I started a local delivery service called “Gorge Deliveries.”Gorge Deliveries was a small version of large companies like DoorDash or UberEats that didn’t serve the small towns near me. Seeing a gap in the market, and with our local restaurants all closed down due to covid, I jumped at the opportunity to start my first real business! As is the case with many early entrepreneurs, I did it all. I learned how to build a complex eCommerce website and a software system that automatically linked drivers to orders. I did all of the marketing and handled meetings with many local restaurants. After a couple months of development, I launched Gorge Deliveries on January 18th, 2021.I decided to close down in January 2023 to take an internship in Baltimore. In just two years, we grew from 4 to 10 restaurant partners and from 3 to 9 towns all around the Gorge. I even hired multiple delivery drivers to keep up with demand. In total we completed over 1,000 deliveries, provided jobs to local residents, helped over a dozen restaurants, and built Gorge Deliveries into a brand with an amazing local reputation, all while finishing up High School, attending University full time, and playing college soccer! I learned SO much from this experience at an early age. I gained in-depth technical skills including web design/development, online marketing strategy, management, scheduling and payroll, delivery logistics, and customer service… lot’s of customer service :) I also had the opportunity to experience things that few 18 year olds ever do. I hired people, fired people, pitched to local restaurants, and dealt with frustrated customers, vendors, and employees. After closing down Gorge Deliveries in 2023, I spent 6 months working as a business development intern and am currently attending Regent University as Junior working on my degree in Business Finance.
