I served for two years as a proselyting missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I learned the native language of Cebuano for the central Visayan region and had weekly opportunities to serve the Filipino people in many ways ranging from rebuilding houses after a big storm, harvesting sugar cane, or simply cleaning someone’s house who recently lost a loved one. After 18 months, I was asked to serve as an Assistant to the Mission President. In that role, I was responsible for coordinating, directing and overseeing the day-to-day activities of approximately 150 young men and women.
