Working in radio at the Utica College radio station WPNR while taking classes in Communications helped me learn more about my strengths and weaknesses and establish my interest in organization and organizational communication. The act of understanding how members of a community or workplace interact with one another and how that can lead to wasted time and resources has always been very interesting to me as it can apply to daily issues and social medias fraught temperament as well. Working a variety of positions to suit the needs of that school year and the successful campus events and pitfalls of balancing work and school were all valuable lessons to learn at a first job outside of retail and warehouse work. Learning about the workings of the radio business and how to get hold of viewers in a world where online streaming's domination of the music market is far reaching was a rewarding and stressful experience. Key items like consistent content and offering personality and engagement to offer experiences not offered by other services required a lot of brainstorming and engagement and willingness to bounce ideas off of coworkers and take input and insights from them as well. At the station we ran several large live events every year and as the technical director/promotions director/ and public service manager I was frequently involved in a central organizing role for these events which often required early morning setting up and organization of several people to make sure each sound setup was being monitored and a real human presence was seen.
