During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was required to still help tell the story of the Global Education Center despite numerous global programs being shut down. I helped implement a series of articles called “The Nineteen”, interviewing students abroad, telling their stories about their time away and how the pandemic has impacted their experience. This taught me resilience being able to create solutions during a time where an industry, such as study abroad faced many obstacles.

In my role, I was tasked with assisting the Global Education Center run their respective social media pages on Instagram and Facebook. I was able to increase their follower count by 25%, utilizing engaging content strategies from student features, organization collaborations, and program showcases. My love for content creation helped me thrive in this role as use my skills in graphic design and copywriting to maximize results in our postings. The highlight of my social media work was taking over the GEC “Global Photo and Video Contest.” This yearly event had university students, staff, faculty, and alumni participate in a social media contest submitted via online forms. Every year, this event had our accounts garner an average of a 400% increase in social media engagement. I had the fortune to meet and create content for our programming partners all around the world with the goal of increasing student participation. I got to participate in planning numerous events for the Global Education Center from our Global Short-Term Programs Fair to smaller staff-led and student-led events. The GEC implements over 25 Global Short-Term programs, where I assign a student in each program to gather and send content for the communications team for marketing materials and strategies to feature and maintain student participation. Along with creating marketing strategies for programming, I also play a role in the planning process by creating the itineraries and emergency plans for each program.

In my role, I was responsible for overseeing the daily operations of five shows on the network in coordination with my advisor and the four members of the ESTV management team. Along with the shows, each show had an average population of 20 members each that were run by a team of nine Show Producers. Perform administrative tasks in the context of interviewing candidates for executive positions and scheduling management team meetings. I am also required to create mid-year budgets (between $10k-$20k) and an end-of-year report to the Elon School of Communications Media Board.I got to utilize my love for event planning by creating collaborative programming with other media organizations within the School of Communications and make plan ESTV’s end-of-year celebration. Using my previous experiences within Elon Student Television, I was able to help reconstruct the organization by implementing a brand new handbook for incoming management members and producers utilizing feedback surveys. I also worked with our marketing manager to assist in the development of social media tool kits for the five social media managers of each show. Becoming Station Manager in the context of the “new normal” and having restrictions loosen, myself along with the rest of the management team had to showcased resiliency in the form of numerous recruitment efforts. I presented about the network at organization various and classroom visits to classes centered around television and film production and communications.

In this inaugural role, I had the opportunity to enhance the experience of current Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows. The Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellows program is a nationally recognized leadership development program at Elon University to help strengthen students’ leadership skills. Over the time of their undergraduate journey, Fellows participate in a variety of leadership workshops and specialized leadership and cohort experiences. In this role, I helped develop a programming and accountability structure for the Fellows’ campus engagement requirements. This structure was aided and supported by members of the programs leadership team and created connections with various campus departments to help develop programming calendars with cultural and academic events. I led a team of four fellows (one from each cohort) who acted as cohort liaisons to maintain communication between the cohorts and the leadership team. If needed, I was utilized to assist in mediation and conflict resolution between and within cohorts and/or act as a resource to fellows for guidance and emotional support. I applied the skills I have learned from my time as a Leadership Fellow to my participation in assisting the selection process of the 2026 Cohort of the Leadership Fellows Program. I had the honor of co-facilitating the behavioral analysis activity of over 130 applicants.

Had the opportunity to work with a college league baseball team in their inaugural season with the Appalachian League. As the Promotions and Entertainment Intern, I got to use my skills in event planning, scriptwriting, graphic design, and consulting to create meaningful experiences for audiences of up to 3,500 during the entire season. I got to learn about how an organization such as a baseball team can operate as both a component of a larger company and an individual small business. I thought creatively in meetings to contribute to the season’s promotions calendar. I had to be innovative to create brand new games and interactive components for the audience. Along with enhancing the in-game experience, I implemented anti-discriminatory language into our game scripts.In terms of event planning and consulting, I had the opportunity to meet with local community partners and organizations to incorporate their presence into each home game. Then for entertainment, I was able to make good judgment in selecting in-game entertainment to perform the National Anthem and in-game and post-game performances. I also had the privilege to plan the first-ever “Pride Night” in Burlington Athletic Stadium history. This was a challenging event to plan as we received mixed receptions from the local community leading up to the game. I was able to showcase professionalism in how to handle negative responses from the public and have a successful night with the assistance of Alamance Pride.After my internship, I learned that the Burlington Sock Puppets was awarded the Appalachian League Promotional Award of Excellence. I was inspired to take a deeper dive into the social components of the sports and entertainment industry and learn about the experiences of minority leaders in sports.
