I am a recent physics PhD graduate with 5+ years experience in analytical problem solving, engineering experiments, and modeling physical systems. Throughout my career as a physicist I have pursued topics that interest & challenge me ranging from nuclear fusion energy in my undergraduate, my graduate thesis work in quantum technologies, and passion projects ranging from web scraping and machine learning to predict avalanches to automated garden sensors to minimize water use.For those who are curious, my thesis project entailed building a Bayesian statistics based estimator to predict the environmental conditions surrounding a quantum defect in diamond (Nitrogen Vacancy center) using light emitted by the defect. Through the pursuit of my degree I gained experience in:- Technical analysis of theoretical and computational physics problems for experimental planning and layout.- Coding and programming using Python (Numpy, SciPy, Pyvisa, Pandas, Matplotlib, Beautiful Soup, SciKit-Learn), C/C++, SQL, Java, Git, Mathematica, LabView and Unix for interfacing my experiment with computer control and data acquisition as well as data analysis and exploration.- Integrating and layering statistical models to extract actionable information from noisy data. - Engineering experimental apparatuses using bench top optical setups, RF electronics, vacuum systems, sensors and detectors, digital circuits, data protocols (Serial, I2C, UART), microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi) and Field Programmable Gate Array programming (FPGA). - Science communication by writing for peer reviewed scientific journals and giving oral presentations. - Collaboration with my advisor and lab mates.

As a part of the plasma shock wave team, I ran shadow graph simulations using the ray tracing software FRED. Shadowgraphy utilizes phase contrast to determine how thick a medium is by sending x-rays incident to the target and measuring the phase accumulation of those x-rays at a detector on the other side. As the rays enter nearly parallel to the surface of the medium they can refract in such a way that most rays are refracted just beyond the edge leaving a dark ”shadow” along the inside edge of the material. Since the materials used in inertial confinement fusion (ICF) have such low absorption factors the process is mostly reliant on refraction and ray tracing can be used to simulate the results. Using the ray tracing software FRED. I was able to simulate the shadow graphs of a shock wave in propagating in a plasma. Results from my simulation were used to create parameters for a ramped-drive laser shot.

Designed and engineered a Time-Resolved Tandem Faraday Cup to be used as a diagnostic tool for measuring the carbon emission cross-section of carbon-carbon plasmas. The cup counted the number of carbon ions accelerated by the process of target-normal sheath acceleration off a carbon plasma. I was involved in the calculations of optimizing the dimensions of the cup. Then designed and machined parts to hold two magnets in a dipole formation in order to suppress secondary electrons with in the cup. My research group and I experimented with these magnets and found that they suppressed secondary electrons within the cup effectively. The TRTF Cup was tested to become an active diagnostic at the University of Rochester’s Laser Laboratory for Laser Energetics in 2016.
