It all started with some friends and a TI-84 in High School. The friends group was working on a game and they asked me to play it. Fun for what it was, a BASIC text based rpg but I didn’t care for the theme. I opened up the source and started renaming things but I didn’t know how to insert characters. So I just worked within the confines of the names provided to me. This taught me to solve problems within constraints… and when to ask someone more knowledgeable for help. When I ran into a 3 letter name, I finally asked my friends where the insert function was located.I’ve come a long way from those days of being huddled over a calculator in the back of class and have expanded my repertoire to more than just BASIC. Nowadays I work for Dearborn National as a Software Engineer designing Web applications in JavaScript and Groovy. While leveraging frameworks like AngularJS and Spring, we are able to spin up new websites and host them on Pivotal Cloud Foundry. While working here I have explored different technologies and methodologies. Some of my favorites are component based architecture, dependency injection, and unit testing.The majority of our applications are internal only so I get to work closely with our customers, other Dearborn and HCSC Employees. We have converted to an Agile process, which has allowed us to produce new features and fix bugs faster while increasing collaboration. I love problem solving. Researching new technologies, thinking of solutions, and wondering which solutions are the most appropriate for the situation, these are what drive me forward. I am continuing to build projects, both at work and at home, and am enjoying every minute of it.
