CurrentBSLI NASA Student Launch Initiative (SLI) project team commits to an eight-month process of designing, building, and flying payloads to support NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) program. This design cycle the payload shall carry four STEMnauts defined to have human survivability metrics, will jettison between 500-700ft, and will land in a pre-determined orientation to deliver the STEMnauts safely on the ground without the use of parachute/chemical propulsion.In my time on the payload team I was able to further develop my iterative prototyping skills and teamwork as we went through more than 10 configurations and conducted many more drop tests. The final product was inspired by a maple seed and successfully slowed payload descent. The team was invited to compete in Huntsville by NASA.
