About Ethan Elgin

I have a wide variety of experience in several trades including Mental Health, Theatre, Writing, Editing and Teaching. By trade I am a trained mental health counselor in Western Massachusetts. I'm a trained Shakespeare actor though have acted in several modern plays as well. I have directed and produced musicals as well as straight plays. As a writer, I have written 3 complete novels and published a dozen or so poems. I have also written for the Examiner.com as a Mental Health Rights Advocate and columnist. Currently, I am working on my first piece of fiction that is in no way autobiographical. For me, this is a difficult task as I struggle with trying to reconcile all that needs to be said in the world of "nonfiction". While in the past, my novels have revolved around growing up in a family afflicted with mental illness as well as being surrounded by it much of my life both personally and professionally, I do not feel that story is yet ready to be written by me. Instead, I have gone back to my roots from the time I was little writing fiction based in a more surrealistic and fantasy setting. I try to overcome a certain stigma that goes along with genre fiction, but it is always what I have had the most fun engaging in.Specialties: Writing, Editing, Counseling, People.

Currently working on a serial novel with the working title of The Books of Moab. Its 400 years after all the major nations have annihilated each other with nuclear destruction. Civilization has begun to rebuild, and seats of power have shifted. In the country of New Prussia, the largest in Western Europe in the town of Estragert, a gypsy caravan sits outside the town with strained relations with the local township. In a year of strange circumstances a boy is born in the gypsy tribe. Many believe he is a prophetic birth, including some from the white village of Estragert. When an explosion rocks the Western Wall of New Prussia, it is revealed that Brishen has a destiny and he must leave to fulfill it with the utmost urgency. He, Durriken and Aishe begin to travel the land on the vague notion of their mysterious fate discovering a world of magic, destruction, superstition and hope. Brishen finds that his tribe is not the only one who knows of his kismet. The Britons learned of his birth and have labeled him as the Anti-Christ. Briton, now a land ravaged by power and “sorcery” is bent on destroying him. Brishen’s one destiny is to get to America now known as The Silent City. A land no one has heard from in over 400 years since the Old War and through both horror and joy his journey finds many strange and wonderful characters that join his new tribe and his volition to reunite the Gypsy people after 4000 years. Mixing Old Testament history, modern epithets, and dark fables, this is a story of what happens to the things we leave behind and what they can be turned into through the eyes of a boy bent on rebuilding this destroyed mosaic of a world. Planned to be a trilogy: Out of the Dead Lands, In the Silent City, and The Rising.
