Independent Game Developer - Unity, Unreal Engine, Html And Javascript
It may not be considered professional experience, as I haven't generated any income from it, but I've spent a lot of my free time developing and creating games using Unity, Unreal, and other engines like RPG Maker and Twine. Over the course of several years, I've developed a series of games and demonstrations of what I can do with each engine, that I've put up on my Itch.io page. Every project is independently made, using pre-built or self-made assets. I'm proud to have them as a sign of how far I've come and how much more I can do, and their variety is another show of how diverse and adaptable my skill set is.I've also taken work into developing mods for games on Steam- Both in Starbound and Rain World- That build on the existing game's code, and have helped broaden my understanding about code like JavaScript, JSON editing, and C# code. From my experience as the sole developer of these games, I've had a lot of experience in understanding the perspective of every role in creating a game- From the artist, to programmer, to writers and designers. I'm hopeful that my biggest project- A fantasy RPG that I wholly intend to make entirely by myself, before I die.
Head Lifeguard
Lifeguarding has been a part-time job for me going on 6 years now, having helped carry me most of the way through college. Moreover, the flexibility of a part-time job allowed me to begin a job search for software development and game design while still maintaining a source of income.Over the course of my job, I've learned a lot of hard skills applicable to the job- From CPR and First Aid to maintenance of chemicals in pools, but moreover, I learned a lot of communication, leadership, and teamwork skills throughout my time as a Head Lifeguard working for the city, such as team resource management, coordination, and task distribution. The City of Aurora is a nice place to work- And over time, I believe I've made major improvements to the quality of service at our pools, and connected myself with a lot of our patrons. Connecting with people is something I really enjoy about the job- And offers me perspective into how I can better improve their experience!
Ai Consultant
Provided insight into AI development, encouraging AI learning towards safe and ethical responses to user prompts.Assisted in programming correctness in Python, including data visualization using Python. This was a Freelance position, and communication with other people at the company was sparse- If nonexistent. I was let go without knowing so, and my account currently is dormant.
Volunteer Unity Game Designer - C#
This position actually came to me on Indeed- A position for a volunteer programmer in People-1st Open Metaverse, back when it was P1-OC, or People-1st Open Collaborative. Currently, a project that we are working on is a game called "SkyJellies," a sandbox farm game involving the care of several little slimes that you can meet throughout the world, and through several levels in the game! The game itself is coded through Unity and C#, with a big focus on taking care of your pets. I've been a part of them for a few months now, and though I don't often have a lot of time to contribute, I find a lot of joy in seeing the game progress and contributing when I can! I often try to volunteer my efforts in between hard presses for a software and game development job that I can get paid at- And I feel proud of the contributions I've made to SkyJellies as a volunteer.Much of P1-OM's values align with my own- The concept that communities need to be accepting of all people, and that the internet is not a place to be owned. The team at P1 is very kind and engaging, and I enjoy interacting with them on the occasions when I have the time. I look forwards to our progress on this game, and future endeavors!
Software Development Intern - Version Control System, Javascript, Typescript
I had an offer for an internship at Amazon during the summer of my last year in college- Though initially I thought it was an offer for working on their game, "New World," I still accepted the offer to work as a part of the Carbon Team- A team of software developers working on the Amazon Prime Gaming website. I had several project propositions offered to me, and chose one that built on their existing version control system for the website- Which used GitHub. My project was to implement a means to making impacts on the Website's performance more visible to the other developers on the team. I did so by adding a layer of tests that measures how quickly the site booted up, whenever a new version was added to the GitHub, and provided the data to the developers. This allowed other team members to examine how their changes in the code might affect the performance of the website, and decide if any impacts on performance were worth going back and revising the code. During my time and in between my work for the project, I was able to really connect to all of the team, even though all of my internship was remote. I got to engage in several team-building activities with the group, and in turn, began to open up. I learned the importance of engaging with the team, getting support and communicating what I needed for my project to work out.
Computer Science Peer Tutor - Mathematics, Java, Python, C#, C++
For a time, in high school, I was helping out other students with Computer Science and Mathematics classes. It was a volunteer opportunity that was given to students by the school, where students could sacrifice their free period to stay in a study center where other students who were struggling would come to get help.I was one of the tutors who helped with programming and mathematics questions- If a student was in a particularly difficult AP Mathematics class, or was struggling with some of the computer science projects, I would be the one they come to for help. I met with well over 20 different students over the course of my work as a peer tutor, and I loved hearing about their improvements over the course of the year. Most students said I had an innate understanding of how to explain things in a way that reached them when their teachers couldn't, and I helped raise a fair share of grades over the course of 2 years. When it came to computer science, I helped students programming primarily in Java and Python, but also helped answer questions regarding C++ and C# coding languages.
