Currently, I’m a principal engineer at Cars.com, rewriting their existing SOA platform to a majestic Elixir monolith.At various points in my career I’ve been a manager, director, platform, security, data, and infrastructure engineer.     I've been on many teams doing a variety of work at Belly. Everything from data engineering, Ruby and Scala development projects, DBA, architecture design and review, and at times the sole ops and devops person on the team.Notable projects and responsibilities include:Architecting and building a new data warehouse. This project used a variety of AWS products including Data Pipeline, EMR, S3, Redshift, EC2. The project was delivered on time and under budget, costing less than half of the previous Cloudera based solution.Encrypting all of our data at rest in RDS MySQL databases with minimal downtime (a process not supported by AWS)Optimizing and scaling our email sending platform. This project increased the system's performance by 18x.Implementing and maintaining a monitoring and alerting solution using Heroku Log Drains, Librato, New Relic and Pager Duty. This allows us to monitor everything from free disk space on MySQL, to Heroku response times, so top level business metrics in one tool.Optimizing and scaling our microservices architecture hosted on Heroku and our RDS MySQL instances.Built internal tooling to support an ELT system.
