Following graduation, I began full time work. My duties include general lab maintenance and maintenance of lab mice in the animal facility (breeding, weaning, sexing, and ear/toe clipping). I euthanized mice and collected various tissues including sciatic nerves. I served as a surgery assistant for nerve crush surgeries and performed low intensity ultrasound treatment on the surgery site. I regularly performed genotyping PCR, protein quantification, western blot, and imaging for various PhD theses. I am currently working on an independent research project investigating increased expression of the proteins FATP3 and SREBP2, which are involved in fatty acid transport. We hope to determine if they are involved in remyelination in mice of particular genotypes and if they could be possible targets for future therapeutics. I also mentor various high school and undergraduate volunteer students in the lab. I am responsible for discussing my progress at the weekly lab meetings. Show less
