I work in the military industry, managing the corporate side of EMC Operations Group. As a Group, we produce a number of military products (inclusive of unmanned systems, thermal vision systems, and munitions additives.)The defence industry itself absolutely fascinates me. Beyond the excitement of the roar of jets, the growl of the tanks, and the profound and important work that the industry does for the sake of the world, I am fascinated with the business systems that underlie it.Defence is brilliant! Considering the conditions that industry survives under (stringent regulation, high capitalisation projects and proposals (increasing financial risk hugely!), extensive and enormous R&D costs exacerbated by funding difficulty due to low ESG scores, blame by the public and the government where blame isn’t necessarily due (I.E PR issues,) high unionisation and necessity of hiring skilled workers, enormous management structures (coupled with complex factory process) and long deadlines!Despite all of these challenges, the defence industry goes on to be (arguably) the most innovative international industry, and still largely profitable.I firmly believe that in an age where so many people are denouncing defence (particularly generation Z) there is real need to understand that defence ought to be defended in and of itself. An industry that I choose to associate with because I consider it to be a virtuous force for good, and an essential benefit to the world! Currently I am working on:1. Baryonyx STW-50 gel-adhesive agent for the E-Ceptor CUAS munition.2. Development of a new Dimorphodon UAS variant.3. Production of XPLORER UAS.4.
