The focus of the research project that I am a part of was to understand the void structures within 3D printed samples of TPU. Samples were printed at varying speeds, temperatures, among many other variables. Each sample was then put into a micro-CT machine which was used to create a model of the voids within the structure. Afterwards DOE was performed on the samples to determine how each variable affected the structure and size of the voids. The next project that I will be a part of involves printing samples using a dual printing polyjet printer and testing those samples under loads to be able to interpolate trends regarding volume fraction properties.

As a member of a group of four, guided by an advisor, we were tasked with improving the efficiency of a pressure and vacuum relief vent. There were strict dimensioning and weight requirement, but through lots of design ideation, CFD analysis, two full factorial DOE’s on 3D printed prototypes, and lots of analysis, we were able to improve flow by 75% at the same internal pressure. This work was presented at the North Central Regional IISE Conference as a part of the Undergraduate Technical Paper Competition by myself and another colleague, where we placed first. Following the regional win we had the opportunity to present at the 2024 National IISE Conference in Montreal as a part of the national competition, where we also placed first. I learned a lot from this experience, in both technical and nontechnical areas, and was able to co-create a highly successful and award winning project and paper as a result.

During the summer I worked to develop an efficient and streamlined bid analyzing process and bid board. In the process I became very comfortable determining the quality of bids by examining mechanical drawings, plans, and specs for new construction with building automation systems. The costs of these systems ranged between $1,000 and $1M. I also presented trends, along with possible causes and solutions, weekly to upper management of room temperature and humidity sensor reading in failing systems using Excel. While qualifying bids I was also reaching out to over 300 potential customers in an effort to sell our services and products. During the Fall semester I continued my position at Siemens part time to manage refrigerant and chiller databases.
