About Ethan Van Winkle
I have chosen to become an educator because I believe all people should have access to learning science to fulfill our natural curiosity. As a teacher, I want to construct an environment that would help students achieve success apart from any barriers. We are all learning something new every day. My job will be to inspire the people I meet to want to be life-long learners, always searching for new ways to analyze their surroundings. My teaching experience, in my undergraduate and graduate program, has provided me with the necessary skills to be a successful teacher My undergraduate has provided me with skills such as : management, building equipment, communicating, developing and implementing ideas, and exposure to a variety of software/coding such as HTML, C, LabVIEW. These skills, in combination with the analytical thinking and problem-solving skills that I’ve honed from being a physics student, has allowed me to focus heavily on education classes during my graduate program. In my graduate program, I was a student teacher at Lincoln Southwest High School. I have been involved teaching differentiated physics, geoscience, and physical science. This involvement in teaching and with my courses at the university, I have been exposed to inquiry and modeling based instruction. This creates a deeper experience for the students and enriches the academic discourse.I am now approaching a decade in the teaching profession which has motivated me to apply and got accepted into graduate school a 2nd time. I am now in cohort 1 of the NSF Noyce Master Teacher Fellowship program at the UNL. This consists of increasing student interest and success in science by enhancing my knowledge of equitable and inclusive science teaching and learning. My traits from strengths-finder are: Learner, Analytical, Context, Input, and Individualization.Professional Goals:-Professor-Educator-Public OutreachAreas of Interest:-Galactic-Cosmology-Stellar EvolutionPlease note: Post to Twitter, Facebook, Google+ or any other social networks do not necessarily represent the views of my employer or affiliated associations.
