I’m Ethan Wong, currently pursuing my PhD in Mechanical Engineering, where I focus on modeling and simulating systems for nuclear power plants. Before diving into this, I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Aerospace. What excites me about engineering is how it blends theory with hands-on design, and applying those principles to solve real-world problems.What really got me hooked on this field was seeing how engineering concepts translate into actual products and systems. For instance, SpaceX’s rockets were a huge inspiration. I remember one moment during a Fluid Mechanics lecture where we were discussing the design of aircraft components, and it struck me how those same principles applied to something as simple as a syringe. That’s when I knew I was on the right path.When I’m not immersed in research, I love playing tennis—it’s been my passion since I was 10. I’ve always been fascinated by how racket designs evolve to suit different playing styles. One innovation that stood out to me was when Head introduced Graphene into their rackets. That kind of material science fascinates me as much as the game itself.I’m also really into astronomy. Whenever Singapore’s skies are clear, I enjoy snapping some astrophotography shots. It’s a hobby that balances out my academic life, reminding me of the broader universe out there while I’m deep in the complexities of fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
