Dante A. Ciampaglia Email and Phone Number
Full disclosure: I hate writing and creating a narrative about myself. I’m more comfortable making other people’s words and ideas better and building publications and platforms. It’s work I’ve done for a long time — in newsrooms and corporate offices — and I’m good at it.“Editor” was never on my career radar. I wanted to be an aerospace engineer, then a screenwriter, then a film critic. But then I began working with writers, coaching them, and building things. It was challenging, unpredictable, skills-based work. But it was also strategy, collaboration, leadership — all things I thrive on. With editing, everything clicked.Earning my way onto national magazine mastheads, running high-visibility digital publications, offered bigger and better opportunities to be enterprising and innovative: turning a kid news website into a top-tier, award-winning resource; relaunching Sports Illustrated Kids’ website; rebooting Newsweek’s online culture vertical. And then I added corporate non-profit editing and platform creation to my skill set, conceiving, creating, and launching The Elective, a solutions-focused digital education magazine at the College Board.Being an editor is more than my job — it’s my trade. Maybe not as glamorous as film critic or culture journalist, but undeniably more fun. And always more rewarding. My one gripe: Not enough shop talk. I’m always looking for new ways to connect with editors and potential colleagues about tips, tactics, or opportunities — or what’s doing at the ballpark or multiplex.
